On August 20, 2026, a joint field visit was conducted under the Water at the Heart of Climate Action (WHCA) programme in Karongi District.

The visit brought together representatives from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Netherlands Red Cross (NLRC), International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre and RRC Team.

The delegation was led by Mr. Pieter Copper, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and was warmly welcomed by Mr. Muzungu Gerard, Mayor of Karongi District.

The visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to observe and discuss key WHCA interventions being implemented in Karongi District, including:

Radical terraces under construction, aimed at reducing soil erosion, improving land productivity, and strengthening community resilience to climate-related risks.

Dushyirehamwe Cooperative, where the delegation observed the ongoing harvesting activities and discussed the benefits of climate-smart agricultural practices with community members.

Nursery beds, established to support environmental restoration, soil conservation, and climate resilience through tree planting.

During the visit, the Deputy Head of Mission appreciated the progress and quality of work being implemented under the programme.

He particularly highlighted the strong involvement of communities at the centre of the interventions and the important role played by Karongi District authorities in supporting and facilitating programme implementation.

Kuri uyu wa 24/04/2026, muri Croix -Rouge y'u Rwanda habaye igikorwa cyo Kwibuka ku ncuro ya 32 Jenoside yakorewe Abatutsi mu 1994. Mbere y'igikorwa nyirizina hasuwe Abacitse ku icumu batuye mu mudugudu wa Jurwe, Akagari ka Mukuyu, Umurenge wa Ndera, Akarere ka Gasabo.

Muri icyo gikorwa abacitse ku icumu rya Jenoside yakorewe Abatutsi mu 1994 bagera kuri 35 bahawe inkunga ifite agaciro ka Frw 5.000.000. Iyo nkunga ikaba igizwe n'amafaranga yo kwikenuza n'ibikoresho by'ibanze byo mu rugo.

Hari kandi icyiciro cy'abacitse ku icumu rya Jenoside yakorewe Abatutsi 32 bahawe inkunga yo kwiteza imbere mu mishinga iciriritse bakaba bahawe Frw 9.600.000, buri muntu akaba yagenewe Frw 300.000. Inkunga yose yatanzwe ikaba ingana na Frw 14.600.000.

Abahawe inkunga barimo imiryango itarifite aho kuba yubakiwe na Croix-Rouge y'u Rwanda, na bamwe mu banyamuryango ba Mbihoreze. Aba bakaba ari abana bahoze barererwa mu kigo cya Croix -Rouge y'Ububiligi.

NESS Workshop for School Principals

A workshop on NESS (Nutrition Education for School Students), a program that provides nutrition education to primary and lower secondary school students, was conducted for school principals.
During the activity report session, we shared how students actively participated and learned from one another. The principals showed strong interest and asked many questions about the program content and future implementation.
To continue NESS and provide learning opportunities to more students, the understanding and cooperation of schools, especially school principals, are essential. This workshop was also an important step toward improving nutrition in the community.

The NESS (Nutrition Education for School Students) program in Mukindo sector, Gisagara District is now underway! Primary and lower secondary students are learning the importance of good nutrition, practicing proper handwashing, and working together to prepare balanced meals.
The best part! They get to enjoy their delicious creations with big smiles!

Empowering Young Minds Through Nutrition Education

In the first session of the NESS (Nutrition Education for School Students) program, primary and lower secondary school students explored the fundamentals of healthy eating. They learned about the importance of food, the roles of the five major nutrients, the value of water, and what makes a balanced diet.

The students showed great concentration and curiosity as they discovered many new concepts. Through an interactive activity using food cards, they identified which nutrients are found in the foods they know and eat every day.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 During group discussions, they also reflected on the nutritional needs of their families, considering different ages and characteristics.
This is how change begins—knowledge gained in the classroom is now spreading into homes, helping build healthier communities for the future.
