Special Olympics Rwanda in partnership with AVSI Rwanda successfully conducted a two-day Unified Coach Training from 27th to 28th February 2026 in Gicumbi District.

The training was organized under the theme:
“Empowering Coaches to Lead Inclusive Unified Teams.”
A total of 22 coaches participated in the training, representing three districts where AVSI Rwanda implements its projects:
• Gatsibo District
• Nyanza District
• Gicumbi District

The purpose of the training was to strengthen coaches’ knowledge and skills in implementing Unified Sports, which brings together athletes with and without intellectual disabilities to train and compete on the same team. The sessions emphasized inclusive coaching techniques, team building, leadership development, and the promotion of equality through sports.

This initiative reflects the shared commitment of Special Olympics Rwanda and AVSI Rwanda to promote inclusive sports opportunities and empower coaches to create environments where every athlete can participate, grow, and succeed.
