We protect, educate and empower children to rise We believe that play is a powerful tool to change the world.

It can inspire individuals and bring together entire communities. A game of football can educate children about tolerance and peace, and a game of tag can teach about malaria. When children play, they develop skills like cooperation, confidence and leadership–all important life lessons. Play provides a retreat from everyday hardships and brings joy and laughter, allowing kids to be kids.

Empowering girls through climate education and digital learning!

Through RACHEL Plus, students are building practical knowledge on climate change, environmental conservation, renewable energy, and resilience—while girls are confidently leading climate clubs and inspiring action in their schools.
To strengthen classroom integration, Right To Play is conducting a 3-day refresher training (12–14 July 2026) for 129 teachers in Rubavu District. The training focuses on effective use of RACHEL Plus and Play-Based Learning (PBL), helping teachers deliver more engaging and impactful climate education.

TRANSFORMING EARLY CHILDHOOD LEARNING THROUGH PLAY

At RTP Rwanda, we are advancing quality Early Childhood Development (ECD) education for children aged 3–6 years across community- and school-based ECD centers in the districts of Kayonza, Ruhango, and Rubavu in partnership with NCDA and REB.
Reaching 100 ECD (including 36 Community Based ECD centers) and empowering 360 teachers and caregivers, the project has made remarkable progress since the beginning of 2025 by strengthening teacher and Caregivers’ capacity to deliver the ECD curriculum through a Play-Based Learning (PBL) approach.
Continuous coaching, mentoring, and classroom support have significantly improved teacher competency.

Classroom observations revealed that:
 58% of teachers consistently prepared and updated pedagogical documents, including lesson plans, thematic web diagrams, attendance books, and schemes of work.
 69% demonstrated strong child-friendly communication using songs, gestures, and inclusive participation techniques.
 56% effectively managed playful daily routines and classroom transitions.
 64% actively used role play, learning corners, and interactive materials, contributing to stronger child engagement and improved progress across IDELA learning domains.

Through collaboration, innovation, and play-based education, RTP Rwanda is helping create stronger foundations for lifelong learning among young children in Rwanda.

During the weekend of 21st –22nd February 2026, Right To Play Rwanda trained students’ club facilitators including ICT Club, Gender Club, and Environmental Club from 15 schools in Rubavu District.
Through the Girls for Climate Change Education Project, funded by 60 Million Girls, teachers are being equipped with the knowledge and skills to empower girls in climate change education and the use of technology through club activities.
In many classrooms where internet access is limited, learning continues. With RACHEL Plus, students can access thousands of educational resources offline. This enables teachers to incorporate climate content into lessons while learners explore local environmental challenges and design creative solutions.
We look forward to seeing children’s excitement as they use XO laptops and RACHEL devices to learn without the internet—building critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the confidence to use technology to address real-life challenges.

On 20th February 2026, Right To Play Rwanda had the honor of welcoming the Right To Play International President and CEO, Jessie Thomson, to EP Nyakabungo in Kayonza District.
During the visit, she witnessed firsthand impact of Learning through Play with Technology (LtPT) approaches in delivering Science and Elementary Technology (SET) lesson. Through classroom observations, she saw how play-based methodologies strengthen learners’ confidence, collaboration, and critical thinking skills. Students were actively engaged in coding using XO laptops, demonstrating how technology can be meaningfully integrated into everyday learning.
ICT club members further showcased their innovative projects designed to address real-life community challenges. Their creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities clearly reflected the power of combining technology with playful, learner-centered education.
The visit concluded in ECE/ECD classes, where pre-primary learners were joyfully participating in inclusive and stimulating play-based activities that nurture foundational skills.
This visit reaffirmed Right To Play’s commitment to advancing foundational learning and innovation, ensuring that every child in Rwanda has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

Today, 19th February 2026, Right To Play Rwanda was honored to welcome our CEO and President, Ms. Jessie Thomson, for a high-level strategic visit to Rwanda.

During her visit, she held four key engagements with:

_The Minister of Education, Mr. Joseph Nsengimana

_The State Minister of Sports, Mr. Rwego Ngarambe

_The UNICEF Deputy Representative-Head of Programs, Mr. Dominic Muntanga

_Leadership of the Rwanda Education NGO Coordination Platform

The discussions focused on our strategic priorities and the way forward for Right To Play in the coming years.

Emphasis was placed on strengthening collaboration, aligning with national education priorities particularly in foundational learning (ECD and Primary) and advancing synchronized efforts to empower Rwandan children through quality, play-based learning.

We also reaffirmed our shared commitment to sport for development as a powerful tool to improve learning outcomes and create lasting impact for every child in Rwanda.

Happy Heroes' Day Rwanda!
As we honor Rwanda’s heroes, Right To Play Rwanda marked the day by kicking off a 4-day coaching and mentoring training for School-Based Directors of Studies, Community Based and Sector ECD Coordinators, bringing together 44 participants from Rubavu District, 35 from Ruhango District, and 26 from Kayonza District.
This training will equip participants with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills to effectively coach and mentor pre-primary teachers and community based ECD caregivers supporting the delivery of pre-primary CBC (competence-based curriculum) through child-centered and play-based approaches.
Participants are also strengthening their capacity to induct new ECD teachers and caregivers, ensuring continuous support and strong foundations for effective coaching and mentoring.
Together, we are investing in people who support educators every day improving school readiness and learning outcomes for young children.

Yesterday, 10th December 2025, we held our annual RENCP General Assembly chaired by Right To play Rwanda and cochaired by Plan International. The Rwanda Education NGO Coordination Platform (RENCP) brings together education development partners to strengthen coordination, share evidence, and improve collective action in support of national education priorities.
The General Assembly also provides a space for working groups to present progress, challenges, and opportunities, ensuring alignment with the Ministry of Education ( ), the Rwanda Basic Education Board ( REB), and other government stakeholders.
As we close the year, we celebrated our collective achievements and reaffirmed our commitments and agreed on strategic priorities for the year ahead.
