We protect, educate and empower children to rise We believe that play is a powerful tool to change the world.

It can inspire individuals and bring together entire communities. A game of football can educate children about tolerance and peace, and a game of tag can teach about malaria. When children play, they develop skills like cooperation, confidence and leadership–all important life lessons. Play provides a retreat from everyday hardships and brings joy and laughter, allowing kids to be kids.

Today, 15 October, Right To Play Rwanda team met with Regional Director for Africa, Mrs. Betty Mutesi and Director of Program Rwanda-Burundi, Mr. Valens Ndayahoze from Alert International for a valuable exchange of experiences and insights. The discussion focused on exploring areas of collaboration, building stronger connections, and identifying opportunities to create greater synergy between the two organizations.
The meeting provided an important platform to learn from each other’s experiences, share good practices, and discuss how both organizations can complement their efforts to strengthen the impact of their work in Rwanda.

“Plant trees to combat soil erosion and mitigate the effects of climate change.”

Today, 26 September 2026, Right To Play Rwanda joined Rubavu District during the monthly District Umuganda in a meaningful climate action initiative led by the Mayor of Rubavu District, Mr Prosper Mulindwa and the Right To Play Country Director, Mr Amadou Cisse, who together planted trees to symbolize a shared commitment to environmental conservation and community resilience.
The activity focused on promoting community climate action and environmental conservation through a large-scale tree planting exercise and a child-led climate change awareness campaign. More than 6,000 trees were planted along the banks of the Sebeya River, an area that is often affected by water overflow during the rainy season. This effort aims to strengthen soil protection, reduce erosion risks, and enhance environmental resilience in vulnerable communities.
The event brought together local leaders, community members, and climate club members from 15 GCCE(Girl for Climate Change Education) partner schools, who took the lead in delivering climate change awareness messages and encouraging environmentally friendly practices. Through their leadership and advocacy, children and youth demonstrated the powerful role they play in influencing positive environmental behaviors and driving climate action within their communities.
This initiative also strengthened collaboration between schools, local authorities, and communities while creating a platform for young people, especially girls, to build leadership, confidence, and public speaking skills.
Together, we are investing in a greener, safer, and more resilient future, one tree at a time.

As part of preparations for the 2026–2027 academic year, Right To Play successfully delivered a three-days refresher training for ECD caregivers/teachers in Ruhango, Kayonza, and Rubavu Districts, strengthening the capacity of 253 caregivers/teacher who implement CBC curriculum in 100 RTP Partners ECD Centers.
With the guidance of 12 Rwanda Education Board (REB) National Trainers, participants deepened their understanding of Play-Based Learning (PBL) and the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
📌 Key topics covered included:
• Introduction to Play Based Learning Methodology in ECD
• The role of teachers in Early Childhood Development
• CBC overview and review of Pedagogical document used in ECD Centers
Through practical sessions, collaborative learning, and hands-on activities, caregivers explored innovative ways to create classrooms that are more engaging, inclusive, joyful, and child centered.
By equipping educators with the skills and confidence to use play as a powerful learning tool, this initiative is helping to ensure that more children experience meaningful learning experiences that nurture creativity, critical thinking, participation, and lifelong learning skills.
Together, we are creating learning environments where every child can learn, grow, and thrive through play.

Today marks the successful completion of a three-day Basketball Training under the UEFA Foundation-supported Play to Excel Project in Kayonza District.

Following the recent training of 10 school sport teachers in football coaching, child-centered methodologies, and life skills integration, sport teachers from five partner schools came together once again to strengthen their capacity to use basketball as a platform for life skills development.

Facilitated by a FERWABA coach, the training focused not only on quality basketball coaching techniques and child-friendly approaches, but also on how basketball can intentionally promote essential life skills among children and young people. Through teamwork, communication, discipline, leadership, decision-making, resilience, respect, and problem-solving, basketball provides valuable opportunities for children to learn skills that extend far beyond the playing court.

We believe that sport is more than physical activity, it is a powerful tool for helping children build confidence, develop positive relationships, overcome challenges, and acquire essential skills for life.

Empowering Teachers Through Digital Innovation in Climate Education

This weekend of 22nd – 23rd August 2026, teachers from Right To Play partner’s schools in Rubavu District, came together for a Refresher Training on Climate Change Education: Digitalizing Climate Content and Building Interactive, Playful Lessons
The training aimed at helping teachers to transform classroom-created materials into engaging and Interactive digital learning resources. Teachers worked collaboratively to:
✅ Convert row climate education content developed on paper based work into high-quality digital assets
✅ Improve visuals using digital design tools for greater clarity and classroom relevance
✅ Organize learning resources into accessible digital libraries
✅ Explore Lumi Education, H5P, and SCORM packages to create interactive and inclusive learning content which is compatible for Rachel plus/cap
✅ Develop interactive activities such as digital storybooks and other engaging climate learning content to be uploaded on RACHEL PLUS/CAP.

This journey from analog → Digital and Interactive is helping teachers deliver more engaging and interactive climate change education while strengthening children's learning experiences through technology and play.

Empowering girls through climate education and digital learning!

Through RACHEL Plus, students are building practical knowledge on climate change, environmental conservation, renewable energy, and resilience—while girls are confidently leading climate clubs and inspiring action in their schools.
To strengthen classroom integration, Right To Play is conducting a 3-day refresher training (12–14 July 2026) for 129 teachers in Rubavu District. The training focuses on effective use of RACHEL Plus and Play-Based Learning (PBL), helping teachers deliver more engaging and impactful climate education.

TRANSFORMING EARLY CHILDHOOD LEARNING THROUGH PLAY

At RTP Rwanda, we are advancing quality Early Childhood Development (ECD) education for children aged 3–6 years across community- and school-based ECD centers in the districts of Kayonza, Ruhango, and Rubavu in partnership with NCDA and REB.
Reaching 100 ECD (including 36 Community Based ECD centers) and empowering 360 teachers and caregivers, the project has made remarkable progress since the beginning of 2025 by strengthening teacher and Caregivers’ capacity to deliver the ECD curriculum through a Play-Based Learning (PBL) approach.
Continuous coaching, mentoring, and classroom support have significantly improved teacher competency.

Classroom observations revealed that:
 58% of teachers consistently prepared and updated pedagogical documents, including lesson plans, thematic web diagrams, attendance books, and schemes of work.
 69% demonstrated strong child-friendly communication using songs, gestures, and inclusive participation techniques.
 56% effectively managed playful daily routines and classroom transitions.
 64% actively used role play, learning corners, and interactive materials, contributing to stronger child engagement and improved progress across IDELA learning domains.

Through collaboration, innovation, and play-based education, RTP Rwanda is helping create stronger foundations for lifelong learning among young children in Rwanda.

During the weekend of 21st –22nd February 2026, Right To Play Rwanda trained students’ club facilitators including ICT Club, Gender Club, and Environmental Club from 15 schools in Rubavu District.
Through the Girls for Climate Change Education Project, funded by 60 Million Girls, teachers are being equipped with the knowledge and skills to empower girls in climate change education and the use of technology through club activities.
In many classrooms where internet access is limited, learning continues. With RACHEL Plus, students can access thousands of educational resources offline. This enables teachers to incorporate climate content into lessons while learners explore local environmental challenges and design creative solutions.
We look forward to seeing children’s excitement as they use XO laptops and RACHEL devices to learn without the internet—building critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the confidence to use technology to address real-life challenges.
