While the world talks about periods, too many girls in rural Rwanda are still missing school because tDorcas Consolation Family - DCFrcas Consolation Family - DCF , we believe every girl deserves dignity, confidence, and the chance to thrive.

Through menstrual health education, school clubs, and reusable pads, we have already reached 25,000+ women and girls but the fight is not over.

Today, we say: No more shame. No more silence. No more girls left behind.

Twenty-one years ago, our founder Ketsia Kabanyana Mamichou .... walked into a place called Sodoma with nothing but faith and a handful of committed friends.

What she found there and what she refused to walk away from is the reason Dorcas Consolation Family - DCF exists today.

Too many young people face big life decisions with no reliable information and no safe space to ask questions. The cost? In Rwanda, 8% 𝙤𝙛 𝙜𝙞𝙧𝙡𝙨 aged 15–19 have already begun childbearing (NISR, 2024). Early pregnancy cuts education short and fuels cycles of poverty.

We’re changing that. Dorcas Consolation Family - DCF just launched the 9th Rungano Tubivugeho Club — Friends, Let’s Talk About It — at .

After an ASRH session with 392 students, 165 members stepped forward: 115 girls and 51 boys ready to lead. This club is a peer-led space to bust myths, talk openly about reproductive + mental health, learn rights, and practice confident decision-making.

Here, 𝙜𝙞𝙧𝙡𝙨 are reclaiming their futures, and 𝙗𝙤𝙮𝙨 are modeling 𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙨𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮. From menstrual health projects to honest dialogue, members learn to own their 𝙗𝙤𝙙𝙞𝙚𝙨, choices, and voices.

Following a capacity-building training provided by Woven Foundation, Dorcas Consolation Family - DCF staff successfully conducted a 2-day Training of Trainers (ToT) for key community actors to cascade the knowledge and skills acquired.

Participants included School ASRH Club Mentors, ECD Caregivers/Educators, and Parasocial Workers. The training aimed to equip them with comprehensive knowledge of human rights and strengthen their capacity to support and educate their communities as Human Rights Defenders.

For participants who were new to the concept, the training provided foundational understanding, while also creating space for experience sharing and practical learning based on real-life situations they encounter daily.

Together, we are building a network of informed and empowered individuals committed to promoting dignity, equality, and justice in their communities.

During 𝙩𝙝𝙚 32𝙣𝙙 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 of the Genocide against the Tutsi, Dorcas Consolation Family - DCF stands with Rwanda to honor the victims with dignity and truth. We stand alongside survivors, inspired by their courage and committed to preserving the memory of the Genocide.

In our work supporting women and girls in rural Rwanda, we are guided by compassion, resilience, and the unity of our communities. This period calls us to foster healing, strengthen solidarity, and open pathways to dignity, hope, and self-reliance.

Contributing to SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 1 (No Poverty), Dorcas Consolation Family - DCF continues to strengthen 𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙡𝙮 𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙙𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙞𝙣 𝙧𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨.

DCF has recently signed a 𝙈𝙀𝙈𝙊𝙍𝘼𝙉𝘿𝙐𝙈 𝙊𝙁 𝙐𝙉𝘿𝙀𝙍𝙎𝙏𝘼𝙉𝘿𝙄𝙉𝙂 (MoU) with 𝙈𝙐𝙉𝙔𝙄𝙂𝙄𝙉𝙔𝘼 𝙎𝙀𝘾𝙏𝙊𝙍 in Akarere ka Rwamagana , EASTERN PROVINCE, RWANDA to support two home-based Early Childhood Development 𝘾𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 (𝙀𝘾𝘿𝙨): 𝙀𝘾𝘿 𝙐𝙏𝙐𝙉𝙔𝘼𝙉𝙂𝙀 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙀𝘾𝘿 𝙍𝙔𝘼𝙈𝙄𝙍𝙀𝙉𝙂𝙀.

Following the signing, the DCF team visited the centers and met with the host families and ECD educators to discuss existing challenges and explore ways to further strengthen care and early learning for children. These centers serve children from vulnerable families, including 𝙩𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙡𝙤𝙬-𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙙𝙨.
With this collaboration, DCF now supports five home-based and one community-based ECD center, helping young children access safe care, early learning opportunities, and a strong start in life.

When children are well supported in their early years, they are more likely to grow, learn, and thrive. Through initiatives like this, DCF continues to build stronger families and empower communities.

Rwanda’s national child protection and 𝙀𝙖𝙧𝙡𝙮 𝘾𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝘿𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 policies recognize families as central to lifelong success. Yet in many rural areas, families face barriers to 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙖𝙞𝙡𝙮 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙨; especially for single-parent households, leave little time for intentional bonding. Women heading households often carry heavy responsibilities while striving for a better future for their children.

At 𝙀𝘾𝘿 𝙄𝙗𝙞𝙗𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙤 in Gishali Sector, Akarere ka Rwamagana , Dorcas Consolation Family - DCF organized a Parent–Child Bonding and Play Engagement Day to address this challenge. The activity helped children build confidence, emotional security, and early social skills, while equipping parents with practical tools to support their children’s growth at home.

, , and confident little voices filled the day as children and their parents explored guided play, strengthened their bonds, and gained knowledge to nurture resilient, emotionally secure, and intellectually capable children. 𝙈𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨 leading households and 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨 courageously participated, showing that even in the face of economic pressures, meaningful parenting and emotional support are possible.

By supporting families today, is helping children not just grow, but thrive, laying the foundation for a generation of resilient Rwandans.
