DCF exists to alleviate poverty in rural Rwanda by uplifting vulnerable female headed households and girls through Education, Financial Inclusion and Healthcare. Since its creation in 2005, DCF is more devoted in generous acts of love with a significant change in the lives of Rwandan women suffering from post-genocide trauma, poverty, illiteracy, disease and despair. 𝘿𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙈𝙞𝙨𝙨 𝙖 𝘽𝙚𝙖𝙩

In 2019, we moved our offices from town to the rural community we serve. Once we were there, one need stood out. Women, children, and elderly people were walking around 10 𝙠𝙢 𝙩𝙤 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝 𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨.
We saw it. We heard their request: a health facility close to home.

So we built Irakiza Health Post.
Today, Irakiza serves around 7,000 𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨 every year and has provided more than 44,000 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨. It runs regular awareness sessions on heart disease and other noncommunicable diseases, and it cares for mothers and families close to home.

For rural women, this is real change: care is closer, and less time goes into long walks.

Now we are taking the next step. The Second Generation Irakiza Health Post will serve 10,000 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙢𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙨 every year. It will add maternity care, dentistry, and stronger heart disease screening, so no one has to walk that far for the care they need.

𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝘿𝙖𝙮, heart disease is still the world's leading cause of death. We can't let warning signs go unseen because care is too far away.

𝘼 𝙃𝙀𝘼𝙇𝙏𝙃𝙔 𝘾𝙃𝙄𝙇𝘿 𝙎𝙏𝘼𝙍𝙏𝙎 𝙄𝙉 𝘼 𝙈𝙊𝙏𝙃𝙀𝙍'𝙎 𝙆𝙄𝙏𝘾𝙃𝙀𝙉.

In Rwanda, 27% of children under five are stunted. In Rwamagana District, it's 19.2%, nearly 1 in 5. Progress is real, but every child still counts.

Stunting doesn't only affect height. It shapes how a child's brain grows, learns and dreams.

The good news? Much of the answer is already growing around us.
Beans, sweet potatoes, amaranth, eggs, avocados, small fish, fruits from the garden: local, affordable foods can build strong bodies and bright minds when they reach a child's plate every day.
Last week, parents across our 5 𝙝𝙤𝙢𝙚-𝙗𝙖𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙀𝘾𝘿𝙨 sat together to talk about exactly this: how to feed their children better with what they have, keep them healthy through good hygiene, and spot the early signs of malnutrition before it's too late.

Because a mother who knows is a mother who protects.
This Monday, let's remember: the first 1,000 days last a lifetime.
Today, DCF walks alongside nearly 300 children across 6 ECD centres, so every child can learn, eat and grow.

When 𝙜𝙞𝙧𝙡𝙨 have the knowledge, they have the power to choose their future.
Yesterday we launched our 10th "𝙁𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙇𝙚𝙩'𝙨 𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙠 𝘼𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙞𝙩 𝘾𝙡𝙪𝙗" (Rungano Tubivugeho club) at GS Mwurire I, welcoming 179 new members.
Here, 𝙜𝙞𝙧𝙡𝙨 speak openly about their bodies, their health and their dreams, with boys standing beside them as allies.

Together they learn about sexual and reproductive health, mental wellbeing and respect.

And it's working: girls are more confident, stay engaged in school, and now use the Girls' Room with pride instead of shame.
With teenage pregnancy among 𝙜𝙞𝙧𝙡𝙨 aged 15–19 in Rwanda rising from 5% to 8% in five years, every club counts.

I-WEEM, the Integrated Women's Economic Empowerment Model, is Dorcas Consolation Family (DCF) proven path for vulnerable women. Not a handout. A cycle: heal, build, rise.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙮𝙘𝙡𝙚:

Heal. Trauma-informed mentorship, because a woman can't build on wounds she's never had space to name.

Discover her strengths. Starting with what she already has, not what's missing.

Build real skills. Training that turns potential into income.

Access capital. Direct financial support, plus a 𝙎𝘼𝘾𝘾𝙊 account in her name. A 𝙎𝘼𝘾𝘾𝙊 is a community-based savings and credit cooperative where she saves and borrows affordably.

Never alone. A Village Savings Group walking beside her, every week.

𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙘𝙮𝙘𝙡𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨:

87% struggle to access capital. 83.67% carry trauma from their past. Yet 90% still show up, every week, to save.

That's not just resilience. That's a woman ready to rise, moving from Slow Mover to Fast Mover, until she graduates into lasting independence.

and the 5 home-based centers we support nourish 300+ children daily, fed, weighed, and monitored for three years before primary school.

Behind every child is a rural mother. Behind every mother is our commitment: nutrition education, daily meals, consistent growth tracking.

Today, Dorcas Consolation Family Rwda held its Board General Assembly of the year, marking another milestone in 21 years of transforming lives across Rwanda.

Our Board reviewed a year of real impact: women empowered through savings groups, children thriving through early childhood development, and families reached through community health, and set a clear vision to scale this further.

This is accountable, results-driven governance in action, leaders committed to outcomes, not just oversight.

Dorcas Consolation Family Rwda invested in my siblings' and my studies, helping us become responsible adults.

Today, 𝙄 𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠 to as a 𝙥𝙧𝙤 𝙗𝙤𝙣𝙤 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙖𝙪𝙙𝙞𝙩𝙤𝙧. This is the power of .
Some stories don't need embellishment. They just need to be told.

In Rwanda, 30.2% of female-headed households live in poverty, versus 26.6% of male-headed households (NISR, 2023/24). Behind that gap: mothers forced to choose between 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙞𝙣 𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡.

We don't reach every child. We reach the ones poverty is about to silence, 𝙗𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩, 𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚, one school fee away from dropping out. Since 2005, that focus has secured education for 1,400+ children, especially girls.

At our recent Testimony Sharing Event, alumni returned to speak to the students DCF now walks beside, of loss, of hunger, of mothers who carried it alone. Then, of transformation.

One voice said it best: Mugisha Anaclet, who lost his father young, was raised through DCF alongside his siblings. Today, he holds a professional job elsewhere, and still gives his time to DCF pro bono as an internal auditor. Not because he has to. Because he was invested in once, and knows what it's worth.
With Rwanda's lower-secondary dropout rate at 4.8% (MINEDUC, 2023/24), every child we choose is a future secured, deliberately.
