📖 In der aktuellen Ausgabe unseres Jahresmagazins spricht Paul im Interview mit Girge G***k über die Entstehung der Root Foundation Brass Band.

🎺 Die Brass Band ist ein langfristiges Projekt der Root Foundation, welches seit 2019 besteht. Die von Girge G***k und Sandro Hirsch initiierte Brass Band hat das Personal Development Programm der Root Foundation bleibend verändert. Sie ist sowohl bei ihren derzeit 135 Mitgliedern als auch bei ihrem inzwischen breiten Publikum sehr beliebt. Die Root Brass Band ist außerdem Teil von Kollaborationen, wie etwa mit Brass for Africa Brass for Africa - a leading social impact organisation.

📖 In the latest issue of our annual magazine, Paul talks with Girge G***k about the origins of the Root Foundation Brass Band.

🎺 The brass band is a long-term project of the Root Foundation that has been in existence since 2019. Initiated by Girge G***k and Sandro Hirsch, the brass band has permanently transformed the Root Foundation’s personal development program. It is very popular among its current membership of 135 members as well as its now broad audience. The Root Brass Band is furthermore part of collaborative projects, such as Brass for Africa Brass for Africa - a leading social impact organisation.

Vergangene Woche hat sich ein kleiner Teil des RFG-Teams bei rekordverdächtigen Temperaturen im Berliner Tiergarten “in echt” getroffen - eine Sache, die bei uns nicht häufig vorkommt. 🌻

Wir arbeiten fast ausschließlich remote, und die Gelegenheiten zum persönlichen Treffen sind rar. Deswegen war es umso schöner, die Personen, mit denen wir eng zusammenarbeiten und Projekte umsetzen, über einem Teller Bratkartoffeln anstatt durch eine Kachel hindurch zu sehen ☀️

Last week, a small group of the RFG team met “in person” at Berlin’s Tiergarten despite record-breaking temperatures - something that doesn’t happen very often for us. 🌻

We work almost exclusively remotely, and opportunities to meet in person are rare. That’s why it was even more wonderful to see the people we work so closely with and with whom we complete projects together, face-to-face over a plate of German fried potatoes instead of through a screen ☀️

Im Gegensatz zu den meisten Teammitgliedern waren Elisa und Marie noch nie ehrenamtlich bei .rw in Ruanda tätig. Hier erzählen sie, wie sich dies auf ihre Aufgaben und Blickwinkel innerhalb der Root Foundation Germany auswirkt.

📖 Annika is 27 years old and currently studies Literature in Paris. Ever since working as a volunteer at Root Foundation Rwanda in 2017/2018, she has been involved in the work of the organization.

📢 At Root Foundation Germany, Annika has contributed to the organization in many positions, such as in the production of the annual magazine or as child protection officer. Recently, she has rejoined the board of the organization and is responsible for question concerning the team in Germany and our relations to Rwanda.

📖 Annika ist 27 Jahre alt und studiert derzeit Literaturwissenschaften in Paris. Seit ihrem Freiwilligendienst bei der Root Foundation Ruanda 2017/2018 engagiert sie sich für die Organisation.

📢 Bei der Root Foundation Germany hat Annika in vielen Bereichen mitgewirkt, beispielsweise bei der Erstellung unseres Jahresmagazins oder als Kinderschutzbeauftragte. Seit kurzem ist sie wieder im Vorstand der Organisation tätig und dort zuständig für alles, was das Team in Deutschland sowie unseren Kontakt nach Ruanda betrifft.

🪴Maximilian is 26 years old. He visited .rw for an internship in 2019 and has been a member at RFG ever since, actively participating on the organisation’s board since 2020.

⚡Besides his engagement at RFG, Maximilian pursues a master’s degree in International Relations and works in renewable energy consulting.

🪴Maximilian ist 26 Jahre alt. Er absolvierte 2019 ein Praktikum bei der Root Foundation Rwanda und ist seitdem Mitglied bei RFG; seit 2020 engagiert er sich aktiv im Vorstand der Organisation.

⚡Neben seinem Engagement bei RFG absolviert Maximilian einen Masterstudiengang in Internationalen Beziehungen und arbeitet in einer Beratung für erneuerbare Energien.

We are happy to announce that the joint health and hygiene project of .rw and Root Foundation Germany has been been completed! 🧱💧📖

Consisting of two phases, the project included the construction of two water tanks, a kitchen, one office, a storage and toilets for girls and women, as well as education on health and hygiene.

As one of the water tanks provides fresh drinking water, the Root Foundation now can ensure access to clean drinking water. Furthermore, a gender-sensitive approach to health and hygiene has been initiated with the girls-only toilets and workshops on female health and sexual and gender based violence.

Overall, this project encourages sustainable development practice and can serve as a positive example of partnership in development projects.

Starting this series off are Annika and Paul, both long-term members of Root Foundation Germany. They have met in Berlin to discuss what the first return to Rwanda is like for them as previous volunteers at Root Foundation Rwanda.

This year's magazine shines a light on the project, which .rw & been running since 2019.

We invite you to learn about the beginnings of the brass band in our interview with Girge G***k, who initiated the project together with trumpeter Sandro Hirsch. Further contributions highlight the experiences of children, youth and teachers involved in the band – including the current teacher Bagumirabingi Joseph Best from Brass for Africa.

In addition, the magazine features the launch of Root Foundation's own children's center back in Summer – constructed thanks to funding from in the program .sachsen 2022. Finally, we also present the new health and hygiene project – funded by Stiftung Nord-Süd-Brücken, Peter Wroblowski and Heike Zängerlein & co-financed from tax funds based on the budget passed by the Free State of Saxony.

Das Magazin beleuchtet das Projekt der Brass Band, welches die Root Foundation seit 2019 in Kooperation mit der NGO Brass for Africa durchführt.

Wir laden euch ein, im Interview mit Girge G***k, der das Projekt gemeinsam mit Trompeter Sandro Hirsch ins Leben gerufen hat, mehr über die Anfänge der Band zu erfahren. Weitere Beiträge thematisieren die Erfahrungen der Kinder, Jugendlichen und Lehrer*innen, die an der Band beteiligt sind – darunter etwa des derzeitigen Lehrers Bagumirabingi Joseph Best von Brass for Africa.

Zudem berichtet das Magazin über die Eröffnung des Kinder- und Jugendzentrums der Root Foundation im Sommer – dessen Bau durch eine Förderung der Sächsischen Jugendstiftung im Programm "genialsozial" 2022 ermöglicht wurde. Schließlich stellen wir das neue Gesundheits- & Hygieneprojekt vor, das von der Stiftung Nord-Süd-Brücken, Peter Wroblowski & Heike Zängerlein finanziert und durch Steuermittel auf der Grundlage des vom Sächsischen Landtag verabschiedeten Haushalts mitfinanziert wird.
