This International Women’s Day, and every day, we’re fighting for gender equality - because water is a gender issue

Right now, millions of women and girls spend hours each day walking for water. Time that should be theirs to learn, work, and be with family.

The good news is, you can help. Walk in solidarity. Take on the Walk for Water challenge by walking 155km in March or 5km a day, and raise money to help make clean water a reality for everyone, everywhere.

No woman should have to risk her life when giving birth.

Yet, every two seconds, a woman gives birth in a healthcare facility without clean water, sanitation and hygiene.

This means that women can’t wash themselves or their newborns after birth, midwives can’t wash their hands or sterilise equipment – putting them all at serious risk of harm from preventable infections and sepsis.

Every woman, everywhere has the right to a clean, safe birth. It is essential to achieving gender equality in healthcare.
