Launch of the Second Edition of “The Power of Creative Reasoning: Ideas and Visions of Dr. John Garang de Mabior” in Kigali, Rwanda

Dr. Lual Achuek Deng—former State Minister of Finance (2005–2010), Minister of Petroleum (2010–2011), and former economic advisor to Dr. John Garang de Mabior—officially launched the second edition of The Power of Creative Reasoning: Ideas and Visions of Dr. John Garang de Mabior in Kigali, Rwanda.

The launch took place on Martyrs Day, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the passing of Dr. John Garang de Mabior and honoring other fallen heroes of South Sudan where most cultural groups performed.

The event drew more 500 young South Sudanese students from various Rwandan universities, alongside families, government officials, artists like singer Arizona JJ, the CEO of Africa World Books, and a representative from the Office of the Vice President and Chairperson of the Economic Cluster, Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel. As part of the celebration, over 300 copies of the book were donated to students, and more than 100 copies were distributed to community groups, special guests, and faculty members.

In his address, Dr. Lual emphasized that Garang’s legacy is not merely historical but aliving call to action. He urged young citizens and policymakers to draw from Dr. Garang’s vision—what he defines in the book as “Garangnomics” and “Garangism” to drive socio-economic transformation. He reiterated Garang’s belief in agriculture as the engine of the economy, powered by oil revenues as a sustainable foundation for South Sudan’s development.

The launch was jointly organized by Africa World Book Publishers, led by CEO Peter Lual Deng, in collaboration with the South Sudanese Students’ Association in Rwanda (SSSAR).
