The first-ever WHO Resolution on Stroke, adopted in May 2026, marks a historic milestone for the global stroke community.
This Resolution recognizes stroke as an urgent global health priority and calls on all Member States to:
• Develop and implement national stroke plans covering prevention, acute care, rehabilitation, and long-term support.
• Strengthen health systems to improve access to quality stroke services.
• Establish robust data, monitoring systems, and stroke registries to measure progress and guide action.
For Stroke Action Rwanda, this Resolution is more than a global commitment—it is a powerful mandate to accelerate efforts toward better stroke prevention, timely treatment, comprehensive rehabilitation, and stronger support for stroke survivors and their families.
The Resolution has been adopted. Now it is time for implementation.
