Muraho neza! 👋🏽 My name is Joëlle, and this week I started my position as a volunteer at the Jumelage.
I have a Master’s degree in Geo ecology and, beyond my studies, I am also very interested in topics such as environmental justice and globalization processes.
I will be working in the Social Department, and I am looking forward to learning more about international cooperation and the various projects of the Jumelage over the coming months.
Working at the Jumelage is also particularly meaningful to me on a personal level, as I am from Mainz but also have family in Rwanda. I am therefore especially happy to spend more time in my second home and contribute to the exchange between people and cultures.

My name is Luc Jilavu, I'm 18 years old, and I'm from Mainz. I started my volunteer position at Jumelage this week and will be working in the Department for Sports and Youth Development. I love making music, and I enjoy meeting new people through it. I also enjoy filming and am always looking for new inspirations in both areas. Through my work at Jumelage, I hope to be able to contribute with both of these interests and am looking forward to many exciting projects!

Ruanda-Tag 2026 in Oberwesel

Am 22. August findet der diesjährige Ruanda-Tag in Oberwesel statt. Ab 12:00 Uhr erwartet euch auf dem Marktplatz und im Kulturhaus ein abwechslungsreiches Programm rund um die Partnerschaft mit Ruanda.

Bereits im Vorfeld findet ab 10 Uhr das Finale des Jumelage Cups sowie ein Spendenlauf auf dem Sportplatz in Oberwesel statt. Auch hierzu sind alle herzlich eingeladen, die Teams anzufeuern und gemeinsam in den Ruanda-Tag zu starten!

At Notre Dame de Bonne Esperance TVET School located in the Southern Province of Rwanda, Gisagara District, Ndora Sector a school infrastructure project was successfully implemented by the construction department of the coordination office of the Partnership Rhineland-Palatinate/Rwanda. The project was funded by Ruandahilfe Hachenburg e.V.and supported with funds from the State of Rhineland-Palatinate. The objective of the project was to build two classrooms with office to enhance the learning and teaching environment. Additionally, a cistern with a capacity of 10 cubic meters was provided and installed. The project concluded with a joyful artistic event organized in collaboration with the construction department team. Through this event, the new space was integrated into daily school life not only physically but also emotionally, transforming it into a welcoming and shared community space.

An der Berufsschule Notre Dame de Bonne Esperance in der Südprovinz im Distrikt Gisagara, Sektor Ndora, wurde von der Bauabteilung des Koordinationsbüros der Partnerschaft Rheinland-Pfalz/Ruanda ein Schulinfrastrukturprojekt erfolgreich umgesetzt. Das Projekt wurde vom Verein Ruandahilfe Hachenburg e.V. finanziert und mit Mitteln des Landes Rheinland-Pfalz unterstützt. Ziel des Projekts war der Bau von zwei Klassenzimmern mit einem Büro, um das Lern- und Lehrumfeld zu verbessern. Darüber hinaus wurde eine Zisterne mit einem Fassungsvermögen von 10 Kubikmetern bereitgestellt und installiert. Das Projekt endete mit einer ausgelassenen Kunstveranstaltung, die in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Team der Bauabteilung organisiert wurde. Dadurch wurde der neue Raum nicht nur physisch, sondern auch emotional in den Schulalltag integriert und so zu einem einladenden und gemeinschaftlichen Ort für alle.

𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗥𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮

In July, the Coordinating Officer of the Rwanda Department visited Rwanda to meet the team at the Coordination Office in Kigali and local partners in person, gaining valuable first-hand insights into their joint activities and cooperation.

In addition to Kigali, the visit included Kamonyi, Gisagara and Huye. Together with colleagues from the Coordination Office, a number of projects and partner organisations were visited, with a particular focus on the education sector. The trip also included visits to schools showcasing a new architectural approach featuring outdoor learning spaces and the integration of art, created in collaboration with the students. The visit centred on personal encounters, discussions of current topics and the continued strengthening of the long-standing partnership between Rhineland-Palatinate and Rwanda.

The journey provided valuable insights into the wide range of activities taking place on the ground and once again highlighted how important personal exchange is for maintaining the vibrant partnership between people and institutions in both regions.

Last week, a new combined basketball and volleyball court was inaugurated at G.S. Mukondo. The joyful ceremony brought together students, parents, alumni, local leaders, and partners.
The event featured among other things traditional and modern dance performances, inspiring speeches and an exciting volleyball match.
This achievement marks another milestone in the strong partnership between G.S. Mukondo and Leininger-Gymnasium, Grünstadt whose support made the construction of the new combined court possible.
The inauguration celebrated not only the opening of these new sports facilities but also the friendship, cooperation, and shared commitment to providing students with a better learning and sporting environment.

Letzte Woche wurde an der G.S. Mukondo ein neuer gemeinsamer Basketball- und Volleyballplatz eingeweiht. Die feierliche Zeremonie brachte Schüler*innen, Eltern, Ehemalige, lokale Persönlichkeiten und Partner zusammen.
Auf dem Programm standen u. a. traditionelle und moderne Tanzvorführungen, inspirierende Reden und ein spannendes Volleyballspiel.
Das Projekt markiert einen weiteren Meilenstein in der starken Partnerschaft zwischen der G.S. Mukondo und dem Leininger-Gymnasium in Grünstadt, mit dessen Unterstützung der neue Sportplatz gebaut werden konnte.
Bei der Einweihung wurde nicht nur die neue Sportanlage gefeiert, sondern auch die Freundschaft, die Zusammenarbeit und das gemeinsame Engagement dafür, den Schüler*innen bessere Sportmöglichkeiten zu bieten.

At Ecole Primaire (EP) Mukomacara located in the Southern Province of Rwanda, Gisagara District, Mugombwa Sector a school infrastructure project was successfully implemented by the construction department of the coordination office of the Partnership Rhineland-Palatinate/Rwanda. The project was funded by Fair Play Tour and supported with funds from the State of Rhineland-Palatinate. The main objective of the project was to completely replace a very old block of four classrooms which could not be renovated and featured small sized classrooms with a new block of three classrooms and thereby improve learning and teaching conditions. Additionally, a 10 cubic meter capacity cistern was provided and installed. The project ended with a joyful artistic event, carried out in partnership with the construction department team. Through this, the newly developed area was incorporated into daily school life not just physically, but also emotionally, transforming it into a welcoming shared space.

Das Projekt endete mit einer ausgelassenen künstlerischen Veranstaltung, die in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Team der Bauabteilung durchgeführt wurde. Dadurch wurde der neu gestaltete Bereich nicht nur physisch, sondern auch emotional in den Schulalltag integriert und so in einen einladenden Gemeinschaftsraum verwandelt.

My name is Ange Uwarugaba, and I am excited to join the Coordination Office as a Junior Project Officer in the Department of Sports and Youth Development. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Development Studies and have professional experience in project implementation, youth engagement, monitoring and evaluation, data collection and analysis, reporting, and stakeholder coordination. My experience working with government and private institutions, has strengthened my ability to support impactful development initiatives and work collaboratively with diverse partners.
In my new role as a Junior Project Officer, I will support the planning, implementation, coordination, and monitoring of sports and youth development projects, while contributing to strong partnerships and meaningful opportunities for young people. I look forward to working with the Jumelage team, building strong professional relationships, promoting youth empowerment through sports, and contributing to the continued success of the Rhineland-Palatinate and Rwanda. I am excited to continue learning, grow professionally, and make a meaningful contribution to the partnership's mission and vision.

𝐉𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐂𝐮𝐩 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐭!

Four regional tournaments, four winning teams and many meaningful encounters centred around football, fair play and partnership are now behind us.

The qualifying tournament winners:

Lahnstein: Johannes-Gymnasium Lahnstein
Grünstadt: Leininger-Gymnasium
Trier: BBS Trier
Bad Kreuznach: Frauenlob-Gymnasium

The first statewide Jumelage Cup for Rwanda Partnership Schools in Rhineland-Palatinate combines sporting competition with intercultural exchange and partnership. Throughout the tournaments, participating teams had the opportunity to share experiences from their school partnerships with Rwanda and learn more about topics such as sport in Rwanda and the importance of fair play.

On 22 August 2026, the four qualifying winners will meet in Oberwesel ahead of the Rwanda Day to compete for the title of the first Jumelage Cup champion. In addition to the trophy, exciting prizes await the winning team and their partner school in Rwanda.

A big thank you to all participating schools, teams, supporters and volunteers for making the first Rhineland-Palatinate Jumelage Cup such a successful start!

GS Gikonko Catholique, located in Gisagara District, has long experienced water shortages during the dry season. This leads in particular to a lack of safe drinking water for the students.
With support of their partner Friedrich-Magnus-Schwerd-Gymnasium, Speyer the school has now received a Smart Water Tank equipped with a modern filtration system. This new facility provides students with clean and safe drinking water throughout the dry season, helping them to stay hydrated and healthy during hot days.

Die GS Gikonko Catholique im Distrikt Gisagara leidet seit langem unter Wasserknappheit während der Trockenzeit. Insbesondere sauberes Trinkwasser fehlt dann für die Schülerinnen und Schüler.
Mit Unterstützung ihres Partners, des Friedrich-Magnus-Schwerd-Gymnasiums in Speyer, hat die Schule nun einen „Smart Water Tank“ erhalten, der mit einem modernen Filtersystem ausgestattet ist. Diese neue Anlage versorgt die Schülerinnen und Schüler während der gesamten Trockenzeit mit sauberem Trinkwasser und hilft ihnen so, an heißen Tagen ausreichend Flüssigkeit zu sich zu nehmen und gesund zu bleiben.
