Grandma, listen to the voice of your granddaughter...

Through The Book of Life, the girls collaborated to create an image of the victim of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi and give her or him life through their written address: the girls who did not know the victims, the elder they ask for information, and the archive they turn to when it exists.

The 7th edition of Ingoma Nshya Festival in 2025 coincided with the 31st commemoration of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. Therefore, The Book of Life was introduced to the girls to inspire and help them navigate this delicate subject.

Launched in 2009 in Rwanda, The Book of Life is a series of creative writing workshops that invite ordinary people to write a letter to victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. It seeks to writing a collective memory of the genocide that does not recount how the victims died, but imagine and celebrate how they lived.

Ingoma Nshya Festival - Day 2 - Groupe Scolaire Matyazo & Groupe Scolaire Rukira.
There are two themes for this Festival: a common one share by all schools "Kwibohora" and they had "Carte Blanche" for the second one.
Each day, the girls are proving how immensely talented they are and how much they love what they are doing. They are making HUGE progress and deserve to have more access to more opportunities to perform.

Ingoma Nshya Festival 8 started yesterday with 50 girls from Ecole Primaire Catholique de Ngoma et Groupe Scolaire Mpungwe. Mr. Kayitare in charge of Joint Aciton Development Forum (JADF) at Huye District was our guest. With the support of Guerrand-Hermès Foundation for Peace.
