There are places where water is more than a landscape. They are history.

The Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce was honoured to participate in the opening of an exhibition bringing together images of Bruges and Vyshny Volochyok, a historic Russian canal town that became a major trading hub after Peter the Great created Russia’s first artificial waterway system. The Chamber was represented by its CEO, Oleg Prozorov, and Edwin Derde, Head of the CCBLR Cultural Mission.

Though separated by geography, both cities owe their identity to water, canals and centuries of commerce.

For more than a thousand years, rivers and canals have connected people, cities and markets. They carried merchants, ideas, craftsmanship and culture long before modern transport existed. Water has never been a barrier. It has always been a bridge.

By presenting these two “Northern Venices” side by side, the exhibition highlights how waterways have shaped not only urban landscapes, but also trade, cultural exchange and mutual understanding across Europe.

For the Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce, such initiatives reflect the belief that lasting economic relationships are built not only through business, but also through cultural dialogue, shared heritage and mutual respect. This has been part of the Chamber’s mission for more than fifty years.

CEO of the Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce participated in the General Assembly of GIM-Unimpresa

On 16 July 2026, Oleg Prozorov, CEO of the Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce (CCBLR), took part in the General Assembly of GIM-Unimpresa, held at the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The event brought together representatives of international business associations, the Italian business community and institutional partners to discuss the current business environment and the evolving role of international chambers of commerce and business associations.

A keynote address was delivered via video link by Matteo Salvini, Deputy Prime Minister of Italy.

In his remarks, Oleg Prozorov highlighted the growing importance of international business associations as trusted partners for companies operating in an increasingly complex business environment. He stressed that chambers of commerce today contribute not only to business networking but also to preserving professional dialogue, supporting companies with practical solutions and strengthening long-term business confidence.

The Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce thanks GIM-Unimpresa for the invitation and congratulates the Association on the successful organisation of its General Assembly.
