We are pleased to share that our colleague and fellow practitioner, Betty, represented Sonkei kendo Club and Romania at the Iaido Jodo Koryu 1st Thessaloniki Seminar & Taikai, where she obtained:

🥇 Gold Medal – Jōdō (Shodan & Nidan Category)
🥇 Gold Medal – Iaido (Mudan Category)

Competing in both disciplines and earning first place is a remarkable accomplishment, especially as this was her first Iaido competition.

These results are the outcome of consistent practice, careful guidance from her teachers, and the support of all of us her training partners.

In Budō, every achievement reflects not only individual effort but also the patience of instructors, the commitment of fellow practitioners, and the values transmitted through the art itself.

We congratulate Betty on her performance and thank the organizers, instructors, and all participants for creating an environment dedicated to learning, improvement, and mutual respect.

This weekend, Romania proudly took part in the 1st Thessaloniki Taikai Iaido & Jodo, an international event dedicated to the practice and advancement of traditional Japanese martial disciplines.

Representing Sonkei Club was our colleague Elizabet Vaia, joined by fellow Romanian practitioners Garbea Ion, Alex Sin, and Bobby from CRK.

Hosted in Thessaloniki, Greece by Atrapos Club, the event brought together practitioners and instructors from Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Israel, Turkey, Hungary, and the Netherlands, creating an excellent environment for study, knowledge exchange, and strengthening the bonds between budō communities across the region.

Participants had the privilege of training under the guidance of distinguished instructors, including René van Amersfoort Sensei from the Netherlands, Ognjan Kozuharov Sensei from Hungary, and the Greek instructors Spiridon Drosoulakis Sensei, and Konstantinos Matzaras Sensei,Giannis Papadopoulos Sensei, Giannis Psaltakis Sensei, whose expertise and dedication greatly enriched the seminar experience.

Participation in international gatherings such as this provides a valuable opportunity for both technical and personal development while promoting the core values that guide our practice: respect, discipline, perseverance, and continuous learning.

Congratulations to all participants for representing Romania and our Iaido and Jodo community with dedication, professionalism, and true budō spirit.

We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Atrapos Club and all organizers for their hospitality, dedication, and excellent organization of this event.
