Together for a Safe and Well-Developed EuroVelo 6 Route – A Call for Support
Many cyclists enjoy the benefits of the EuroVelo 6 route without realizing the effort behind its development and maintenance. The route is free for everyone to use, but rarely do people consider that planning, implementation, and ongoing support don’t happen on their own. Particularly in Bulgaria and Romania, several volunteers are working hard to ensure that you find a safe and well-developed infrastructure that allows you to ride the route without risks.
As part of the NGO Asociatia Organizatia Pentru Turism Ecologic 'Dunarea' (A.O.P.T.E. 'Dunarea'), I am actively involved in the Constanța region, striving to further develop the EuroVelo 6 route. This includes offering accommodation in our home, as there was no lodging available along the stretch from Silistra (BG) to Cernavoda (RO). Additionally, I am planning to provide a dedicated campsite for EuroVelo 6 cyclists to help mitigate the risks of wild camping, such as the danger posed by stray dogs.
Many cyclists have already taken advantage of our offer, yet unfortunately, the willingness to support us with small donations has been low. This is disappointing, as your contributions would not only help maintain the existing services but also enable us to expand them, providing future cyclists with safe places to stay, whether it be a simple tent site in a secure environment.
Those who come from wealthier countries and can afford accommodations at 100 Euros per night could consider a small donation to help reduce overall lodging costs. This would make it possible for less financially secure cyclists to ride the route safely and without significant financial burden.
