FOREVER homes always sought

Welcome to RACE (Romanian Animal Care Europe). The purpose of this group is to find homes for the puppies and dogs that have come into our care as a result of being abandoned on the streets or badly abused. All the rescues live with our frontline worker - the true hero of our team - where they are properly socialised and get plenty of human interaction as well as dogs and cats. When we do find for

ever homes for our rescues, we want them to be right, for both the dog and of course the adopted family. We work hard to achieve that as we do like Happy Ever Afters. This page shows our rescues who are looking for forever families to adopt them. There are always large numbers of dogs waiting to come into our care but, like all rescues, we have limited space and resources … but as soon as one of our precious dogs leaves us to travel to their new home, we fill the space for another in need. Each dog/puppy requires food, passporting, microchipping, vaccinations, worming and the oh so necessary spaying/neutering. Some need more in the form of veterinary treatments. We are happy to answer any questions you may have. So please enjoy meeting our dogs on this page, all of whom were rescued from the streets or from Romanian Public shelters. Finally, they now have the chance of a loving family and a safe future.

🇹🇩🇬🇧♥️ ANNA IS NOW IN THE UK ♥️🇬🇧🇹🇩

Anna, the little beauty from the kill shelter, has finally arrived at her foster home in the UK. Jo says she’s been incredibly kind to the rescue puppy that Jo is also fostering for another rescue … she went and picked a toy up and gently gave it to him to play with. ♥️♥️ Anna is just one perfect, beautiful soul despite the misfortunes she’s suffered in life. Way to go sweet Anna ♥️🐶

❤🐾 HOPE — READY FOR HER FOREVER HOME 🐾❤

🇬🇧 HOPE IS CURRENTLY ON FOSTER IN SOUTH WALES, UK 🇬🇧

Hope lived for three long, hopeless and miserable years in a Romanian kill shelter. As no one had shown an ounce of interest in this dear girl, the shelter put her on their “Black List” – i.e. euthanisia. RACE were (and still are) bursting at the seams with rescue dogs … every time we find a forever home for one of our precious dogs, we seem to get litters of young puppies abandoned who find their way to us … it’s a never ending battle. We knew that Hope would make an excellent family dog … the volunteers at the shelter (the only salvation these dogs have) knew Hope well as did our Elena who had seen her so many times. In a last ditch attempt to save this girl’s life, we appealed to get her into an experienced foster home in the UK. Thanks to some of our fabulous supporters, we got the transport monies together to get her to her foster home in South Wales.

Foster mum, Nina, says:

“Hope had been in foster with me for 3 weeks now, after 3 long years in a kill shelter. Those 3 hard years have not taken away her deep sweetness of nature. She's a just a delight with humans!

She's 6 years old on paper but there is so much resilience and energy when she wants it, she acts much younger. Her health appears excellent with pearly white teeth, 0% plaque, no sign of any joint issues (that usually show in UK lab- like dogs of that age) and plenty of energy when she wants to play. With Arnold she is fast and enjoys quite rough play (see video), loves playing tug with a rope toy with him and humans alike.

To humans, Hope is super gentle; snuffling your hand, just quietly waiting for fuss, but when she gets some and then you stop, there's that ever so gentle paw on your arm to say 'more please' over and over. When you finally have to move away, she just lies down and waits or goes for a potter in the garden or some play time with Arnold. She is not demanding or whiny at all, at times you hardly know she's there. I didn't hear her make a sound for most of the first week!

On a lead she can be a bit of a charger until she calms. Then she walks nicely (see video). She is strong though and a bit pig- headed, wanting to stop when she wants to sniff, and only moving on again when she's ready! When I road walked her she was always with Arnold and he could be reactive to other dogs on leads, so she also reacted too at those times. However, I've yet to see if she does the same solo.

Hope, like Arnold, takes food from your hand ever so gently and is quite happy for you to move her food bowl while eating. Both dogs have brilliant food habits!

Hope would be suitable for families, couples or singles alike, as long as they can handle her strong moments on a lead. Her nature is so gentle with people and her eyes are full of soulful love, you cannot help but want to sit and cuddle her.

So if you want a gentle dog with humans with a beautiful heart that shows every time you look in her eyes, plenty of energy but also the desire to laze for endless hours in the sun, Hope may be your perfect waiting soul dog.”

❤🐾 CRISTI — READY FOR HIS FOREVER HOME 🐾❤

Last December, one of our team found Cristi tied inside a sack and thrown away in the mountains. In his terror, Cristi clawed a tiny hole just big enough to breathe. Had he not fought with every ounce of strength he had left, he would never have been found.

By pure luck, Costi (Adela’s husband) was passing by and spotted the sack moving. Inside was Cristi — skin and bone, freezing, terrified and yes, cruelly tied up in a sack to slowly suffocate to death. Cristi was heartbreakingly grateful to be held.

Fast forward to today, and you wouldn’t recognise him. Cristi is now healthy, happy, affectionate, playful, and absolutely adores children. He’s active, gentle, and so ready to give his whole heart to a family who will love him for the rest of his life. After everything he’s survived, Cristi deserves a home where he is cherished, safe, and never thrown away again.

Despite this Cristi has blossomed into the sweetest, happiest boy. He’s great with children, loves cuddles, enjoys playtime, and is full of gentle affection.

He’s survived the worst. Now he deserves the best. Cristi is ready for adoption — could you be his forever?

🇹🇩🐶 RACE ADOPTIONS - ZEPHYR (WAS ATHOS) 🐶🇹🇩

We were told of the 3 3 3 rule back with our Greek rescue, which we adhered to as he'd had a troubled past. However, Zephyr (Athos) arrived nervous and a little like a wide eyed lost pup. I just wanted to scoop him up, but remembered I couldn't. We were given all his documents containing his passport with vaccinations in.

The first thing we did was wipe him down, he was very dusty and a little smelly.

He met our other dog in the yard, the initial meeting was OK, then he came indoors and met our cat, we were told he got on well with cats, we even saw a video to prove this. The first thing he did was chase our cat. Not to be put off, because this is important, with time and patience, bonds form. They are now very close.
That evening, all he wanted to do was snuggle, he needed comfort and to know he was loved. He also slept on our bed, but only for the first few nights, he has a lovely bed of his own in our bedroom!

After just 5 weeks, he is eager to learn, has already been walking off lead for a couple of weeks and loves to meet new dogs. He is empathetic to other dogs if they don't want to play. He also does not like balls or toys. He has a snuggle bear, and that is all he likes.
He bonded straight away to me, but is very much my husbands dog as well.

I cannot fault how amazing this boy is. A true seeker of snuggles and comfort.

After what our previous Greek rescue went through and reading the horrors of Romanian rescues, I would definitely consider another at some point and would recommend adopting from abroad.
