There are many different types of intelligence, but a prominent framework is Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, which includes linguistic, logical-mathematical, musical, bodily-kinesthetic, spatial, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalist, and existential intelligence. Another model is Robert Sternberg's triarchic theory of intelligence, which categorizes intelligence into analytical, creative, and practical types.
Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences
Linguistic: The ability to use language effectively to express ideas and understand spoken or written words.
Logical-Mathematical: The ability to analyze problems logically, carry out mathematical operations, and investigate scientific questions.
Musical: The capacity to recognize and create musical patterns, rhythm, and pitch.
Bodily-Kinesthetic: The ability to use one's whole body or parts of the body to solve problems or create a product.
Spatial: The ability to think in images and pictures, and to visualize the world in three dimensions.
Interpersonal: The ability to understand the intentions, motivations, and desires of other people and to work effectively with them.
Intrapersonal: The ability to understand oneself, one's feelings, and motivations.
Naturalistic: The ability to discriminate among and appreciate living things (plants, animals) and features of the natural world.
Existential: A sensitivity and capacity to tackle deep questions about human existence, such as the meaning of life.
Sternberg's Triarchic Theory of Intelligence
Analytical: The ability to evaluate, compare, and analyze information, often tested by traditional IQ tests.
Creative: The ability to come up with new ideas, find novel solutions, and cope with new situations.
Practical: The ability to adapt to changing environments and solve problems in the real world.
