Interreg Romania - Hungary The Interreg Romania-Hungary Programme is a cross-border cooperation programme, funded through ERDF.

The Interreg V-A Romania-Hungary Programme aims at financing joint Romanian - Hungarian projects, which address needs that lie on both sides of the border, and that require a common approach and innovative solutions, aiming at facilitating the integrated, sustainable development of the eligible area. The Programme disposes of a total budget of approx. 232 million EUR, out of which 189 million EUR represent non-refundable support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The eligible programme area comprises the counties of Bihor, Satu Mare, Arad and Timiş, on the Romanian side of the border and the counties of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, Hajdú-Bihar, Békés and Csongrád-Csanád on theHungarian side.

🫶 Sometimes, bullying looks like a child who stops raising their hand. Or a student who says they’re “not hungry.” Or a group chat that includes everyone, except one person.
Not every wound is visible. But every child deserves to feel safe, accepted and heard. 🛡️💬
Following World Mental Health Day on 10 October, our latest story in "The Human Side of Cooperation" series introduces two women working to make that possible.
Through the No bullying | ROHU00313 project, Bea and Ági helped create supportive spaces for children, young people and parents in Szeged and Timișoara, where they could share their experiences openly and without fear of judgement.
And something meaningful grew from this initiative: a group of mothers who continue to meet, connect and support one another even after the project ended.
Because sometimes, lasting change begins with a door that opens, a space where you feel welcome, and someone who reminds you that your voice matters. 🧡🤗

🇭🇺 Hungary takes a pioneering role in cross-border cooperation
Hungary is the first EU Member State to establish a National Cross-Border Coordination Point (CBCP) under the new BRIDGEforEU Regulation.
The CBCP provides a formal channel for identifying and addressing legal and administrative obstacles that affect people, organisations and businesses working across borders.
The Hungarian CBCP is also actively seeking cooperation with neighbouring countries to help make cross-border mobility and services work better in practice.

The preparation of the Interreg Chapter for 2028–2034 is moving forward – and we want to hear from people who live, work and cooperate across the border.

On Sept 30, in Debrecen, we celebrated the 15th anniversary of Interreg Cooperation Day, together with students from the University of Debrecen. 🇷🇴 🇭🇺

This year’s message, Stronger Together, was more than a slogan. We put it into practice by bringing young people into the conversation about the region, their challenges and their ideas for the future.

Colleagues from the Managing Authority of the Programme, the Hungarian National Authority, the Joint Secretariat and the Info Points joined the conversation too. Together, we explored real stories from Interreg Romania–Hungary projects and talked about what makes it easier, or harder, to study, work, and connect across the border. Then we challenged the students to turn their ideas into cross-border project concepts. 💡
Two students from the University of Oradea made the day even more special. Young people from both sides of the border met, shared ideas and contacts, discovered common interests and, hopefully, started a few new friendships along the way. 🤝
From mobility and education to healthcare and the environment, the discussion showed just how many topics matter to young people.
Questions, lively discussions, creative ideas and real connections - the room had it all.

Because Interreg Cooperation Day is about more than celebrating cooperation. It is about making it visible, bringing it closer to people and creating space for new ideas.
And the event was filled with plenty of them. 💙

🏛️ A new cultural landmark is taking shape in Oradea!
The construction of the Multifunctional Cultural Centre has reached 30% completion, a major milestone for the CULTURAL LIVING LAB | ROHU 00618 strategic project.
📍 Set on a 17,700 m² site, the future centre will bring together:
🎭 A main hall with 1,000+ seats
🎤 Two conference halls (300 seats each)
🖼️ An exhibition space
🍽️ A restaurant
Work is currently focused on the building's structure, with the main hall and both conference halls already taking shape.
Once complete, the venue will offer modern spaces for performances, exhibitions, conferences, and academic and business events, strengthening cultural cooperation between Bihor 🇷🇴 and Hajdú-Bihar 🇭🇺.
💶 Total project budget: €8.89 million EUR, including an ERDF contribution of €7.11 million.
Led by Bihor County Council in partnership with Hajdú-Bihar County Council, the project combines investment in cultural infrastructure with cross-border cultural cooperation, joint events and digital tools.
📅 Project implementation: December 2024 – December 2027 (36 month)

💃🏃 What happens when folk traditions meet fitness? FolkFit | ROHU278 has the answer.
Through folk dance, music, fitness, and shared experiences, FolkFit brought the communities of Doboz (HU) and Zerind (RO) closer together, while encouraging people of all ages to stay active and engaged.
Implemented by Doboz Town (HU) and the Commune of Zerind (RO), the project combined folk-dance workshops, a dance camp, festivals and health-screening activities with something built to last: two outdoor fit-parks, one in each community. 🌿
The result is more than a series of events. It is a space for people to meet, move, rediscover traditions and build new connections across the border.
✨ Tradition keeps us connected. Movement keeps us going.
As FolkFit reached completion, its spirit lives on in the people who danced together, the families who took part, and the communities that now have more opportunities to stay active and connected.

📢 Open Call to Visitors | Border Regions Peer Exchange on Solving Border Obstacles
⏰ Application deadline extended to 16 September 2026!
The Border Regions Peer Exchange is a peer-to-peer initiative of the European Commission, Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO), implemented by Fundación CEER (FCEER).
It connects organisations that have engaged with b-solutions cases (the hosts) with Interreg A programme stakeholders facing similar cross-border obstacles (the visitors).
The programme offers 10 structured peer exchange visits across EU border regions. Visitors bring their experience and expertise to each exchange and take practical solutions back to their own territory. Programmes facing similar obstacles are matched with a host case based on the most relevant topic.
🌿 To be eligible, your organisation must be one of the following:

Cooperation Entity
Academia and Civil Society
Public Service
Interreg A Programme Body
Other relevant stakeholder in cross-border cooperation
