Uprooted – (Hi)Stories of Stolen Children during World War II: 30.11.2025 – 06.12.2025, Krzyżowa-Poland.
The training involved participants from 12 different countries within Europe and beyond, including two members of our organisation, students at "Aurel Lazar" High School Oradea-Romania.
Besides numerous workshops, participants were also able to talk to director Maja Weiss about her film “Snatched from the Source” (2023), which is dedicated to the fates of stolen children from Slovenia.
There was a very unique experience for the participants: they had the opportunity to write their own personal letters to NS-survivors Izabelle Jelnikova (Ukraine) and Nadezhda Grigorievna Poloneychik (Belarus), which will reach the survivors just in time for Christmas. This makes history real and, above all, personal, says one participant.
🗣️ “Their stories must not be forgotten,” emphasized participant Pilar after the project week, adding: “These topics are still having an impact in everyday lives, not only in the past. The stolen children and their families are still seeking justice and answers.“
The project was therefore not only about imparting knowledge about the stories of uprooted children. “Uprooted” highlighted the importance of biographical work and eyewitness accounts and raised awareness of the lifelong consequences that child abduction can have for those affected through uprooting, violence, and loss of identity.
The project was co-funded by the European Union, Eramus+
