Infiintarea are loc in 1922, ca urmare a unei donatii a cetateanului Karol Sfabb, a averii sale imobiliare catre statul roman, in scopul ocrotirii copiilor orfani. Unitatea si-a desfasurat activitatea, ca orfelinat de baieti, avand traditite de-a lungul timpului, onorandu-si menirea de-a asigura ocrotirea, educarea si integrarea a mii de baieti. In 1993 in Casa de copii din Gavojdia erau ocrotiti
143 de copii, in sistemcamin-internat cu grupe de copii structurate pe orizontala varstei, incepand de la sapte ani. S-a trecut pe sistemul familial prin recompartimentarea spatiilor in apartamente de tip familial, in care locuieste o fratie mare ce sta la baza familiei substitutive create. Sistemul familial isi dovedeste roadele in present cand procentul de integrare sociala la externare este de 100%, a fost eradicata (pentru o perioada), infractionalitatea juvenila, intre copiii institutionalizati si cei din comunitatea locala nu mai exista nici un fel de diferente. Din 1998 si pana in 2008 s-au obtinut succese deosebite in domeniul redarii in familia naturala, largita si adoptii, in proportie de 9.24%, cu o medie de 11 copii pe an. In present Centrul de Plasament din Gavojdia are 98 locuri cu copii intre varstele 2 – 25 ani (studenti). Toate apartamentele dispun de conditii optime de viata: bucatarie, grup sanitar propriu, camera de zi si dormitoare suficient dotate si personalizate, precum si o gradina cu legume. In cadrul unitatii exista cabinet medical, cabinet informatica, cabinet limbi straine, atelier teatru si artizanat, ateliere de tamplarie si lacatuserie, un teren de sport polivalent, club si sala de muzica. De asemenea, in Centrul de Plasament Gavojdia exista o anexa, curte de animale si un lot agricol din care se suplimenteaza hrana pentru copii si bucataria unde se prepara mancarea pentru intregul colectiv de copii.

The institution has been operating as an orphanage for boys, with tradition over time, honoring its purpose to provide care, education and integration of thousands of boys. In 1993 in the Orphanage of Gavojdia were protected 143 children in dorm-boarding system with horizontally age structured groups of children, from seven years. Since 1995 were institutionalized children from three years, girls and boys. It passed to the family system repartitioning spaces in apartments, in each one living a big brotherhood underlying the substitute family created. In present, the family system proves its efficiency when the percentage of social integration at discharge is 100%, juvenile crime was eradicated (for a while), among institutionalized children and children from the local community are no differences. From 1998 to 2008 were obtained remarkable achievements in reintegrating children in their natural families and adoptions, at a rate of 9.24% with an average of 11 children per year. Currently, the orphanage hosts 98 children between the ages places 2 to 25 years (students). Children are divided into 10 apartments family system. All apartments have the best conditions for daily life: kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedrooms equipped and personalized, and a vegetables garden. In the institution exists fisrt aid cabinet, computers room, languages room, theater and crafts workshop, carpentry and metalworking shops, a polivalent sports court, club and music hall. Also, there in the orphanage exists an animal farm with horse, cows and pigs, lands for corn and three greenhouses each providing food supplements for children and a kitchen where food is prepared for the entire group of children.
