One of the festival’s most captivating musical journeys will take us into the world of Bálint Bakfark and his age. ✨
The concert by Ars pro Toto, Concerto Spiralis and István Kónya evokes the golden age of 16th-century European music: madrigals, chansons, lute pieces and instrumental arrangements will be performed, with Bálint Bakfark, the legendary figure of Hungarian lute music, at its centre.
Throughout the programme, the vocal and instrumental music of the period enter into a natural dialogue: the Ars pro Toto Vocal Ensemble performs madrigals and chansons in their original form, István Kónya brings Bakfark’s virtuosic lute intabulations to life, while Concerto Spiralis reveals the richness of renaissance instrumental music.

In the second part of the evening, Palestrina’s art comes into focus through madrigals and motets that were among the most beloved musical themes of the 16th and 17th centuries.
