ROTSA - Romanian Tech Startups Association

Romanian Tech Startups Association aims to be an engine of growth and represent Romanian tech startups with a unitary voice.

Our vision is built on education, practice, transparency, mutual trust, collaboration and knowledge sharing.

We spent two days at the How to Web Conference alongside fellow startup support organizations at the ROStartup Pavilion, reconnecting with our community and meeting founders from across the region.

Having these organizations in one place gives founders a chance to explore the support available to them and speak directly with the people who can help. It also gives us time together to compare experiences and see where our work can connect.

Thank you, ROStartup, for creating that space and bringing us together. We’re glad to be part of this community and support your work to connect Romania’s startup ecosystem. 🤝

What if you could spend a weekend creating a map to help future astronauts explore Mars using NASA’s open data?

NASA Space Apps Challenge Romania has 14 challenges to choose from, ranging from Beginner/Youth to Advanced, so you can find one that suits your experience and how ambitious you want to get over the weekend.

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲: 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗽 (Intermediate) asks you to bring together data from multiple NASA missions to map a location or route on Mars.
If you’d rather work with sound, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗸𝗲𝗯𝗼𝘅 (Beginner/Youth, Intermediate) invites you to pair NASA’s Earth visualizations with sounds generated in real time, giving people another way to explore our changing planet.
With 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝗫 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗣𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗘𝘅 (Advanced), you could build a web tool that lets anyone explore images of the sky from NASA’s SPHEREx mission and see how they change over time.

These are just three of the 14 challenges you can take on this year.
Explore all the summaries on the NASA Space Apps website and choose the one that interests you most.

Full descriptions and supporting resources will be released on 𝟮𝟴 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿, but you can already start finding teammates.

A river, a school and a residential building. These are the three Bucharest challenges at the centre of the WaterWise Hub Hackathon.

Possible approaches include collecting rainwater, reusing greywater, nature-based solutions and smart monitoring. Multidisciplinary teams will work on real places and real water problems, with the strongest solutions moving into an incubation process facilitated by Comunitară București.

The hackathon takes place at 📌 Nod Makerspace on 23, 24, 25 and 31 October.

If your work or studies could contribute to one of these challenges, 👉 apply by 19 October!

We’re at the How to Web Conference, and you can find us at the ROStartup Pavilion! 👋 We’re catching up with people we’ve worked with through and Founders Club.

This year’s speakers include jury members who have helped us assess and recognise promising startups, as well as guests who have shared their experience with founders at our events. It’s a pleasure to hear from them again and meet more of the people building companies across the region.

If you’ve joined one of our events, we’d love an update on what you’re working on! And if we haven’t met yet, stop by the pavilion and say hello. 🤝

🛰️ How could satellite data help communities respond to a crisis?

If you’d like to explore that question with a team, join us for the 12th CASSINI Hackathon: EU Space for Peace and Resilience.

Over the weekend, you’ll work with EU space data and technologies to develop a solution, with expert mentoring and support to prepare your pitch.

Crisis response is one of this edition’s challenges; you can also explore cybersecurity for space-based systems or how space data can help counter transnational crime and terrorism.

You can register with a team or come on your own and find teammates. Previous experience with space data isn’t required, and you don’t have to be a coder to contribute.
Before the hackathon, CASSINI’s Big Ideas Campaign, running from 2–13 November, will offer online sessions introducing participants to EU space technologies and data tools.

Romania’s top three teams will share €4,000 in local cash prizes, alongside mentoring opportunities to continue developing their projects.

ROTSA is organising the Romanian edition in collaboration with Techcelerator and DiFine PR. We’d love to see you there!

Bucharest and Ilfov face two sides of the same water problem: too much during storms, too little during droughts. 💧

The WaterWise Hub Hackathon invites people with different kinds of expertise to work on water circularity solutions for three places in Bucharest: the Dâmbovița River, a school and a residential building. The focus is on ways to capture, store and reuse water instead of losing it.

Organised by Fundația Comunitară București, the hackathon takes place on 23, 24, 25 and 31 October at Nod Makerspace. 📌

Applications are open to technical specialists, students, community and public administration representatives, and people from SMEs and NGOs.

👉 Apply by 19 October!

Romania’s RO AI Factory is taking shape, with plans to give startups access to high-performance computing and technical support for developing their own AI products.

Hosted by ICI București - Institutul Național de Cercetare-Dezvoltare în Informatică and connected to the European AI Factories network, the project will support model training and help teams test and validate new applications. For Romanian startups, this could make it easier to work with computing resources and research expertise that would otherwise be difficult to access.

Speaking to Profit.ro, Victor Vevera, Director of ICI București, said equipment investments would amount to tens of millions of euros, with the infrastructure hopefully fully operational by mid-2027.
