Meet Bella, our newest rescue, and quite possibly the most enthusiastic girl! ๐ถโค๏ธ
Bella is around 7-9 years old and is a Labrador mix who, according to our veterinarian, came pretty close to being the real thing. And personality-wise, she certainly seems to have read the Labrador handbook. ๐
She loves people wholeheartedly and is incredibly eager for affection. Sometimes a little too eager: Bella is still learning that not every person, child, dog or cat she sees necessarily needs to be greeted immediately and with her full enthusiasm.
She's joyful, playful, incredibly food-motivated and absolutely delighted by everything life has to offer. She's also learning what living in a home means, and fortunately, treats make her a very enthusiastic student!
We welcomed Bella into our care a couple of weeks ago and wanted to get to know her better before introducing her to you.
There is a certain reason we took her in:
Bella is a medical case.
Years ago, both of her cruciate ligaments ruptured, and unfortunately, nobody treated them. Over time, she developed severe arthritis in both knees and also in her elbows, as her front legs had to compensate for her injured back legs.
Looking at her X-rays, you might think this dog could barely walk. And then you meet Bella, wagging her tail, exploring the world and asking everyone for cuddles.
Of course, this doesn't mean she isn't in pain. Bella needs long-term pain management, regular veterinary care and a family prepared for the financial commitment that comes with her condition.
But Bella is not a hopeless case. Quite the opposite.
We believe she still has wonderful years ahead of her, and we would love nothing more than for her to spend them as a cherished family member.
We suspect she may have been used for breeding in the past, and we don't know how much affection she received. But the way she desperately seeks human attention makes us wonder whether anyone ever really made her feel loved.
Because Bella simply cannot get enough of it.
