Au plecat la drum fără să se cunoască bine și au devenit prieteni

Patru tineri de la nivelul de Aur din cadrul Centrului Virtual Award și-au finalizat secțiunea de Aventură a programului Award, sub îndrumarea a doi adulți experimentați, voluntari în program. Beatrice Podeanu și Teodor Ungureanu, finalizatori ai programului Award, actuali Supraveghetori și Evaluatori, și-au dedicat din expertiza, timpul și experiența lor echipei Trail Mix.

Echipa Trail Mix este formată din patru tineri din București, Cluj și Suceava. Ei au trecut cu brio prin etapa de planificare ce a avut loc online, împărțindu-și responsabilitățile în echipă, pregătindu-și echipamentul și având cu ei planul A, B și C.

Cele două călătorii ale lor au avut ca obiectiv compararea impactului uman în două medii diferite: zonă montană și zonă rurală. Și-au ales pentru călătoria de antrenament zona montană a Predealului, unde au explorat atât mediul înconjurător cât și relațiile dintre ei înșiși, fiind prima lor întâlnire față în față.

Călătoria finală i-a purtat pe drumurile și prin fermele din Argeș, unde au putut să vadă diferențele de mediu și trai al populației din zonă. Aici, au vizitat sate, au luat interviuri localnicilor și au făcut diferite activități gospodărești.

Eliza, una din membrele echipei Trail Mix, povestește despre cele două călătorii ca fiind pline de neprevăzut, de provocări din care a învățat să ia ce e mai bun, și de perspective care o vor ajuta pe viitor. Tot ea le mulțumește coechipierilor pentru că i-au redat încrederea în sine, dar și încrederea în cei din jurul ei.

“Mi-ați amintit că cele mai frumoase experiențe nu pot fi planificate perfect - ele vin de la oamenii cu care le trăiești. Sunt recunoscătoare că am finalizat acest capitol alături de voi și sper ca prietenia noastră să continue dincolo de DofE,” sunt cuvintele Elizei către echipa ei.

Când e vacanța de vară, tinerii pleacă în Aventură

Așa au făcut și cei patru tineri din Centrul Virtual Award de la nivelurile de Bronz și Argint. Au profitat de vremea bună, și-au luat corturile cu ei, bocancii cei mai buni și au pornit în călătoria lor de antrenament.

Cei patru temerari au fost însoțiți de Ecaterina Lorent de la CPNT Brasov pe cărările ce i-au dus în zona lacului Scropoasa și cheilor Zănoagei. Sub îndrumarea Ecaterinei, cei patru tineri și-au organizat rucsacii, mesele, transportul, dar mai ales traseul.

În timpul călătoriei au avut posibilitatea să se cunoască mai bine, să profite de peisajele montane, de aerul curat de munte, de apele limpezi sau verzi ca smaraldul, dar și să discute despre călătoria lor finală, pe care deja au început să o organizeze.

Multă baftă la planificare în călătoria voastră viitoare!

Three countries. Three teams. One unforgettable Youth Haferland experience.

We’ve shared their stories one by one: Romania, Czech Republic, and now Bulgaria. 🇧🇬

The Bulgarian team captured their experience in this final video, describing Youth Haferland as: “Unforgettable, inspiring, emotional, adventurous, meaningful, and full of incredible people.”

They discovered new strengths in adaptability, independence, communication, leadership, creativity, teamwork, confidence and cultural awareness and learned that sometimes the best experiences begin when you simply say “yes” to something new.

The traditional ball and the campfire became some of their most cherished memories, but perhaps the greatest takeaway was the people:
“Five years from now, I think I will remember the people more than anything else.”

Three countries, different backgrounds, one shared experience and friendships that crossed borders in just a few days.
“I truly hope that this is not a goodbye, but just the beginning of many more international experiences and friendships.”

Meet Medeea Maria Drăgan, one of the young people behind Youth Haferland 2026. 🌿

A university student in France, Medeea spent the last month as an intern with the Michael Schmidt Foundation and became one of the facilitators and coordinators of the entire Youth Haferland experience.

She worked with 16 young people from Romania, Bulgaria and Czechia, as a facilitator, leader, colleague and friend.

Here is Youth Haferland through her eyes:
“Haferland Week had this year a motto full of emotion and meaning: Longing for Transylvania. A motto that I came to resonate with until the very last day. I was never a big fan of tradition. In fact, I left home without any traditional clothes and with the belief that I would attend the ball wearing an ordinary dress. I ended up wearing the most beautiful traditional costume, more than 100 years old.

Haferland Week passed through my soul and changed my beliefs about the importance of preserving traditions, the beauty of Transylvanian villages and the building of communities. Youth Haferland, however, lit a spark in me that I thought had gone out a long time ago. In fact, it was still there, but I could no longer see it, and it was the voices of the young people that brought it to the surface.

I worked with 16 young people from Bulgaria, Czechia and Romania as part of their residential project. I was their leader and facilitator, but also their colleague and friend. I became so attached to their joy and energy that I would stay with them at the end of the day just to talk a little longer. After one leadership workshop, we even had a water fight together.
Youth Haferland brought back to life in me the spirit of a facilitator, both in the sessions I had with the young people and in the workshop I facilitated for the children of Criț.

This project became a gateway for me into culture and diversity, but also a great opportunity to prove to myself how many things I am capable of doing. My colleague Carmen Dragomir was my support and my most reliable help. Even though our experience and ages are different, I did not feel for a single minute that there was any inequality between us.”

Unele dintre cele mai frumoase povești ale Award-ului continuă prin oamenii care aleg să dea mai departe ceea ce au primit

Maria Dudoiu, finalizatoare a nivelurilor de Bronz, Argint și Aur și acum membru Advisory Board al fundației a fost parte din experiența Youth Haferland 2026 și a adus în Criț propria ei poveste de parcurs prin programul Award.

Maria a stat de vorbă cu tinerii participanți despre experiența ei, despre oportunitățile pe care programul i le-a oferit și despre importanța implicării după finalizarea celor trei niveluri.

În zilele petrecute în Criț, Maria a participat la conferința de presă, a luat interviuri participanților, le-a ascultat poveștile și a contribuit la documentarea experienței lor.

A fost, în același timp, parte din povestea Youth Haferland și prin participarea la Romanian–German Bilateral Cooperation Forum, în cadrul Săptămâna Haferland 2026, unde a avut ocazia să o participe la conversațiile conferinței.

Despre experiența sa, Maria a spus: “It was beautiful to see so many people coming from different corners of the world to support and preserve the heritage of a small Transylvanian village. It makes you believe that there is still so much good and hope in the world.”

Iar unul dintre gândurile cu care a rămas după conferință este: “In a world full of problems, being able to stay united around the same purpose, no matter where we come from, is what truly remains.”

Prezența Mariei la Youth Haferland ne transmite un mesaj, unul important pentru toți tinerii care intră în Award: parcursul continuă și după nivelul de Aur.

Continuă prin implicare, prin comunitate, prin mentorat, prin curajul de a-ți spune povestea și prin dorința de a crea oportunități pentru cei care vin după tine.

Maria a venit la Criț ca Alumni și Award Ambassador și a plecat mai departe ducând cu ea poveștile unei noi generații.

Suntem recunoscători că Maria face parte din comunitatea Award și că a ales să fie alături de tinerii Youth Haferland 2026. 🌿

What a day! And what an unforgettable way to end Youth Haferland 2026. 🌿

Closing Youth Haferland with our Goldies receiving their certificates from Mr. Michael Schmidt and Nadia Comaneci, the legendary Romanian gymnast and the first woman in Olympic history to receive a perfect 10.0 in gymnastics, was a truly special moment.

The day was also made even more meaningful by the presence of Maria Dudoiu, Bronze, Silver&Gold Award holder, now a member of the Advisory Board. Maria shared her own journey and experience with the Award, offering the young participants a powerful example of how the programme can continue to shape your life long after you complete your Award levels.

But before the certificates, the young people had something important to do:tell their own story.

After several days filled with new experiences, challenges, traditions, friendships and unforgettable encounters, they took time to reflect on everything they had lived. Working in three teams, they created videos about their Youth Haferland experience and presented them in front of the group.

It was also a moment to realise that every experience has an ending. And this one was not easy to leave behind. After becoming so close in just a few days, many of them simply did not want to go home.

For our young participants, meeting Nadia and receiving their certificates from her was a moment they will remember for a long time.

Behind Nadia's legendary 10 stands a story of discipline, courage, perseverance, ambition and the determination to keep going when challenges seem impossible, values that are deeply connected to the spirit of the Award.

And then, one final surprise: a traditional Saxon dance, learned only one day before, brought everyone together for one last celebration. They danced, laughed and ended the experience exactly as they had lived it: as a group.

Youth Haferland 2026 may have ended, but what these young people take home will stay with them for much longer.

Authentic days in Criț, Transylvania! 🌿

The fourth day of Youth Haferland brought our DofE Gold Award participants from Romania, Bulgaria and Czech Republic even closer to the traditions, stories and people of the Saxon village of Criț.

The day began with a leadership workshop, where the young people had the opportunity to learn, reflect and work together. It was followed by one of the most joyful moments of the day: learning traditional Saxon dances, discovering the steps, the rhythm and, most importantly, having a lot of fun together.

They also had the privilege of meeting Mrs. Sofia Folberth, one of the most remarkable members of the local community and the oldest resident of the village, who celebrated her 104th birthday this year. She generously shared stories from her life and memories of the community, offering the young people something that cannot be found in books: a direct connection with living history and the personal stories behind the heritage they are discovering.

As evening arrived, the young participants dressed in traditional costumes and joined the brass band parade and the local recital at the Saxon Ball, becoming part of a celebration that brings the community together across generations.

They also had the opportunity to discover “Agapi”, an exhibition by Kira Hagi, adding another contemporary artistic perspective to a day deeply rooted in local culture and tradition. ✨

From leadership and dance to personal stories, music, traditional costumes and contemporary art, the day was a beautiful reminder that heritage it is about the people who carry the past forward and the young generations who discover it anew.

Another day of learning, connecting and creating memories in Criț.

This Residential Project, part of the Youth Haferland initiative, is organised together with the Fundația Michael Schmidt, in partnership with Bulgaria and DofECzech Republic and supported by ERASMUS+.
