We are pleased to announce our partnership with Youth Media Center in the Republic of Moldova. Through this collaboration, up to 250 adolescents from five rural and semi-rural communities will take part in activities designed to strengthen their media and digital literacy, critical thinking, self-expression, and civic participation.

Access to reliable information and the ability to critically assess content are essential skills for young people today. By partnering with an organization that specializes in media education and information literacy, we aim to support adolescents in navigating the digital landscape, identifying misinformation, and engaging more confidently in their communities and civic life.

Youth Media Center brings more than 20 years of experience in working with children and young people through non-formal education, media literacy initiatives, and multimedia projects. We look forward to working together to create learning opportunities that help young people develop practical skills, strengthen their voices, and become active and informed members of society.

Today, on the International Day of Democracy, we celebrate the power of participation, dialogue, and the right of every person to have their voice heard. Democracy draws its strength from people, their voices, their choices, and their active involvement in shaping the societies they live in.

At ERIKS, we believe that children are not only beneficiaries of decisions, but rights holders with the right to be heard and to influence all matters that affect their lives, whether at home, in school, in their communities, or in legal and administrative processes. Child participation is at the heart of our Theory of Change and a key strategic objective in advancing children's rights.

When children are empowered to participate, express their views, and contribute to decisions that affect them, democracy becomes stronger and children's rights become a reality, not just a promise.

📣Children have the right to participate and have their voices heard. This is especially important in the context of the insecurity and uncertainty caused by the ongoing war in Ukraine. To support this right, our partner Жіночий консорціум України is organizing a special summer school that combines in-person learning activities with online peer-to-peer exchange sessions, bringing together groups of children from four different regions.

This approach enables children members of initiative groups to learn from one another, share experiences, and stay connected, even when distance and safety considerations prevent them from meeting in the same place.

We are proud to support efforts that promote and protect children's rights in Ukraine. When children understand their rights and know how to advocate for them, they grow into active citizens who contribute to building a society founded on democracy, participation, and respect for human rights.💛💙

Sunt multe motive pentru care profesorii trebuie să fie atenți la starea emoțională și comportamentul copilului. Copiii stau uneori mai mult timp la școală decât acasă cu părinții, iar cadrele didactice au pregătirea profesională necesară să intervină atunci când observă semnele unui abuz.

Dincolo de obligația legală de a identifica și raporta cazurile de violență în familie, școala în ansamblu trebuie să fie conștientă că un copil care nu se simte în siguranță, nu are cm să aibă performanțele școlare dorite. Iar interesul copilului trebuie să fie în prim plan.

Multumim, Școala9 pentru abordarea acestui subiect important.

Copiii petrec mult timp la școală. Și, teoretic, cadrele didactice cu care interacționează ar putea observa semne că ceva nu este în regulă. Că sunt abuzați de cei care ar trebui să aibă grijă de ei.

Legea spune că profesorii trebuie să raporteze suspiciunile de abuz, că școlile trebuie să aibă comisii dedicate, iar autoritățile să intervină prompt.

Dar, deși există legislație, ea nu se aplică întotdeauna. „Cazurile sunt subraportate”, spune Mihaela Dinu, coordonator programe privind copilul victimă a violenței la Organizația Salvați Copiii, organizație care a instruit, acum câțiva ani, 4.000 de profesori din toată țara pe teme de abuz.

Una dintre cauzele subraportării ține de modul în care e organizat învățământul. Profesorii au clase cu mulți elevi, normele didactice au crescut, astfel că dialogul unu-la-unu e dificil.

La nivel național, există câteva județe din țară unde profesorii raportează mai des suspiciunile lor privind posibile cazuri de violență domestică. În Bistrița-Năsăud, DGASPC a primit 28 notificări din partea școlilor și profesorilor. La Hunedoara au fost 23, la Constanța 11, la Cluj 8, iar în Timiș 5.

Day Against Trafficking in Persons

De Ziua Mondială împotriva Traficului de Persoane, imaginile apărute în spațiul public cu copii exploatați și obligați să cerșească ne reamintesc că traficul de copii continuă să existe și că fiecare astfel de caz ridică întrebări despre capacitatea sistemelor de protecție de a identifica și preveni situațiile de risc.

Fiecare copil are dreptul să crească într-un mediu sigur, protejat împotriva oricărei forme de exploatare. Acest drept presupune servicii sociale accesibile, mecanisme eficiente de identificare timpurie, monitorizare a situației copiilor aflați în situații de risc, profesioniști bine pregătiți și cooperare între toate instituțiile cu responsabilități în domeniul protecției copilului.

De Ziua Mondială împotriva Traficului de Persoane, reafirmăm că fiecare copil are dreptul la protecție, iar responsabilitatea de a crea condiții sigure pentru dezvoltarea și bunăstarea copiilor revine statului și tuturor instituțiilor care au mandatul de a le garanta drepturile.

Îndemnăm autoritățile să consolidezele mecanismele de protecție a copilului și să intervină înainte ca drepturile acestuia să fie încălcate.

Nonviolent communication helps people move to recognize emotions, needs, and expressing themselves with empathy and respect. Through this approach, 266 children, 101 parents, and 128 teachers learned practical skills that make everyday interactions calmer, kinder, and more meaningful. Children became better at identifying and expressing their feelings, resolving conflicts peacefully, and building stronger connections with their peers.

Parents and teachers also discovered new ways to support children through active listening and honest, empathetic conversations. As a result, many families and classrooms became more emotionally supportive spaces where everyone feels safer to share their thoughts and feelings. 💙💛

From 24–26 June in Lviv, we met with our partners - Voices of Children, МАРТІН-клуб, БФ "Добробут України"/Charitable Foundation "Eudemony of Ukraine", Жіночий консорціум України. Over three inspiring days, we exchanged experiences, learned from each other, and discussed topics that matter most for children, including the Child Rights-Based Approach, Outcome Harvesting, and Child Participation. We also took time to reflect on ERIKS’ future strategy for Ukraine, making sure it is grounded in the realities, needs, and strengths of the communities we work with.

Despite the horrific ongoing attacks by russia, our partners continue their important work across Ukraine with incredible commitment and resilience. It was inspiring to see the passion and determination in the room, and to be reminded that every conversation, every idea, and every plan we make is ultimately about children. Together, we are working towards a future where children are safe, heard, and supported — and where their dreams have every chance to come true. 💙💛

Every day, Ukraine is hit by intense attacks. Residential buildings, schools, cultural heritage sites, and entire neighbourhoods are damaged or destroyed. 💔 Children wake up in shock, parents face another day of uncertainty, and classrooms that once held laughter now stand silent. When homes and schools are reduced to rubble, children lose not only safety and routine — they lose pieces of their future.

Children’s right to health, safety, and education is being torn apart. Yet even in this darkness, our partner МАРТІН-клуб continue to keep hope alive. They support children with protection, learning, and emotional care, reminding them that despite everything, their dreams still matter and their future is worth fighting for.
