Our Story
When we began Archway, our vision was far different from the one we have now. Back then we naively thought that we could help all the children we found living in the streets. Over the years we’ve fed, clothed, sheltered, advocated for, and rescued children for whom there was no other sources of help.
Our Purpose is, and always will be, to help these children survive in the best and healthiest ways possible. So while our initial programs struggle on, we are adding a new goal to our to-do list. We are going to open a school to teach our beautiful children how to read, write, and do basic mathematics. In addition we will be teaching social skills (Romanian Style with a little Western European-finesse) as well as hygiene and self-care. Should the interest in English arise (and it always does) we will be prepared to teach that, too.
With the current chaos in the world which, tragically, shows no signs of stopping, we. at Archway, are thumbing our noses at conventional wisdom which says that no one cares about our throw-away Romanian kids. We are going to prove our cynics wrong; we are going to show them the best of the human spirit and the pure courage with which these children survive. Stay tuned...
