Acum 85 de ani, pe 22 iunie 1941, a avut loc cea mai mare invazie terestră din istorie. Peste 3,5 milioane de soldați aparținând Axei au început campania lor împotriva Uniunii Sovietice.
Aceasta ținută reprezintă un soldat aparținând Regimentului de Infanterie Grossdeutschland (prescurtat GD) chiar la începutul invaziei (inițial au trecut granița pe 27 iunie). Regimentului de Infanterie Grossdeutschland a fost format pe 14 iunie 1939 din Wachtregiment Berlin (format in anul 1921 ca Regiment de Garda). La data invaziei Regimentul de Infanterie Grossdeutschland era condus de Colonelul Wilhelm-Hunold von Stockhausen (din martie 1940 pana in august 1941)

85 years ago, on this day, the 22nd of june 1941, the largest land invasion in history took place. Over 3.5 million men belonging to the axis forces started their campaign against the Soviet Union.
This uniform is meant to represent a soldier belonging to the Grossdeutschland Infantry Regiment (shortened to GD) right at the beginning of the invasion (they initially crossed the border on the 27th of june). The Grossdeutschland Infantry Regiment was formed on June 14, 1939, from the Wachtregiment Berlin (which had been formed in 1921 as a Guard Regiment). At the time of the invasion, the Grossdeutschland Infantry Regiment was led by Colonel Wilhelm-Hunold von Stockhausen (from March 1940 to August 1941).
