๐ Historic Milestone at the United Nations! ๐ง๐ฉ๐บ๐ณ
The PRISMA European Network extends its warmest congratulations to Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, on his historic election as the President of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly ( )!
This landmark victory in New York is a monumental achievement for Bangladesh, marking its return to this prestigious global leadership role after four decades, and a testament to Dr. Rahmanโs distinguished career in international diplomacy.
๐ฅ Youth Representation at the Core
Just last month, during the UNGA Presidential Interactive Dialogues, PRISMAโs representative, Gabriel Brezoiu (alongside the Group of the European Youth for Change - GEYC), engaged directly with Dr. Rahman. We addressed the critical 2026 UN budget crisis and the pressing need to prevent a "representation gap" that risks excluding youth from global governance.
We were deeply inspired by Dr. Rahmanโs response. Drawing from the powerful reality of recent youth-led democratic transitions in Bangladesh, he firmly stated that the UN's long-term legitimacy relies on moving away from superficial outreach. Instead, he advocated for the systemic integration of young people into the core deliberative processes of global decision-making.
๐ฎ A Vision for Transformation
As Dr. Rahman prepares to lead the 193 Member States under his vision of "Restoring Trust and Managing Transformation," his focus on digital governance, climate resilience, and inclusive multilateralism gives us immense hope for the future.
PRISMA wishes President-elect Dr. Rahman a highly successful and impactful term when his mandate begins this September. We look forward to seeing his commitment to genuine youth integration put into action, and we stand ready to collaborate toward a more digitally resilient and inclusive United Nations!
