Nine years ago, a group of surgeons asked a simple question: why is there still no unified European ultrasound curriculum for surgeons?
Instead of waiting for one, they built SurgUS.
Today, ARCE is proud to announce the next chapter of that work:
The Summer European Ultrasound Course for Surgeons — 14–16 October 2026, Bucharest.
The course is co-directed by Dr. Calin Tiu, whose vision and dedication have shaped the SurgUS platform from the beginning, together with Prof. Andreas Melzer (Germany). Developed within the framework of the EAES - European Association for Endoscopic Surgery , SurgUS has spent nearly a decade making ultrasound what it should be for surgeons: a working clinical skill — in trauma, the acute abdomen, intraoperative decisions, and image-guided procedures.
The format is the philosophy. Short, focused lectures — then probe in hand. Half of the entire programme is hands-on training, supervised by 18 faculty members from Germany, Greece, Israel, the Netherlands, and Romania.
And this edition brings something new: AI in surgical ultrasound, treated seriously. What automated image analysis can already do in the operating theatre, where it genuinely sharpens decision-making — and the legal framework surrounding it, because responsible adoption matters as much as the technology itself.
We deliberately keep the group small. Everyone scans, everyone gets feedback. Which also means registration is strictly first-come, first-served.

Three days in Bucharest. Because the best way to learn ultrasound is with a probe in your hand.
