Happy to introduce Mo Langmuir and Samuel Collins, the current artists in residence in ARCbucharest residency program.
The residency is organized in the frame of Akademie Schloss Solitude's Eastern European Network exchange program and co-financed by Administratia Fondului Culural National AFCN
Mo Langmuir + Samuel Collins are an artist duo, currently collaborating on their project ‘Towards Species Citizenship’, expanding the scientific definition of species to seeing life in all forms, whilst grounding their work in relation to current political frameworks. Their technical backgrounds in environmental biology and political architecture intersect at the questioning practice of art.
Through situated and site-responsive practice, Mo + Sam seek to undergo a Tuning to the environment they are in, an embodied process, without pre-determined destinations, formed through collaboration with the total environment; local experts, fellow artists, scientists, folklore, environmental elements and the non-human community. They work to create ‘sensitivity equipment’ [Latour] for enhancing connection with the living environment and cultivating a collective consensus of care. The nature of the sensitivity equipment depends on the project, with a focus on land art, walking performance, ecological sculpture and installation.
In Romania, they will continue experimenting with Tuning as a mode of ritualistic practise in adjusting to our surroundings and aligning with our local community. They will continue working with the lens of critical animism (seeing life in all forms within current political frameworks) to explore political ecology more broadly, under the working title of Nesting.
