EN: When a dog finds a family, does the case really end?
We take a dog off the streets. We take him to the vet. We find out he needs surgery. We operate. We keep him in recovery. We pay for his treatment, medication, tests and food.
And then the miracle happens: he quickly finds a family. ❤️
He is lucky. Very lucky.
But what about us?
We are left with the bill.
And this is where we honestly don't know how to answer one simple question:
Is that it? Because he has a family, is his case considered closed?
What happens to the costs that are still left behind?
Are we supposed to stop taking in other dogs until his bill has been fully covered?
Are we supposed to stop treating the other dogs already in our care because we still haven't managed to pay for the surgery of the one who has just gone home?
Do we leave a sick animal untreated until we can somehow "close" a previous case financially?
And if we do that... what happens to the next dog who needs help today?
Because this is the reality of rescuing an animal:
A dog can find a family in two days, while the debt created by saving him can remain with us for months.
And we cannot tell a sick dog:
"Wait a little longer. We can't treat you yet because we still have to pay the surgery bill for the dog who was already saved."
We cannot stop rescuing because the bills don't stop coming.
We cannot close the door on the next soul who needs us simply because the previous one was lucky.
And perhaps the most unfair part of all is this:
The fact that a dog has found a family does not mean that saving him cost us nothing.
He goes home.
We are left with the bill.
His new family gave him a future.
But for that future to become possible, someone had to pay for his present.
That someone was us.
So when you see a rescue case that has found a home and think, "Wonderful, it's all sorted now!", please remember the part that nobody sees anymore.
The surgery still has to be paid.
The treatment still has to be paid.
The recovery still has to be paid.
And if you want to help us be able to say YES to the next dog who needs us, every donation towards the outstanding costs means something much bigger:
the chance to save another life. ❤️
