Dzogchen – a path to harmony and inner peace
Tibetan Teachings with Khenpo Tenpa Yungdrung Rinpoche
"Your freedom lies in the space between two thoughts."
In the Yungdrung Bon tradition of Tibet, one of the oldest spiritual traditions in the world, the supreme teaching is Dzogchen – the Great Perfection. It reveals the primordial state of the individual, his inherent Buddha nature or Bodhichitta, which is timeless, beyond all conditioning and conceptual limitations.
In everyday life, there is rarely a clean consciousness, not obscured by various manifestations. Our attention is focused, to a large extent, on the past or the future. But if they are not accepted, they are not followed and they are not rejected, if nothing changes (non-reaction) the thoughts dissolve by themselves.
If awareness and presence remain in the space between two thoughts, there is non-referentiality, lucidity and clarity. This is the natural state of mind.
It's not like when you just relax and think about nothing. In the natural state there is presence and consciousness, without being followed or changed by manifestations, emotions and everything that manifests, the so-called appearances, do not influence, do not modify, this state. There are no expectations and nothing changes.
It is a complete, perfect state by itself. Hence the name of these teachings - Dzogchen or Great Perfection.
In fact, the main cause of our suffering is that we cling to what we think is real.
According to Dzogchen teachings, if the nature of the mind is understood, negative thoughts and emotions, generally appearances, self-dissolve by themselves (it is called self-liberation.
Thus the source of our sufferings and problems disappears by itself. In the natural state,
the senses still perceive but we no longer cling to appearances. In this context, the mind refers to thoughts, emotions, sensations, which we might call "impurities or obscurations", it is always an interpretation of them. In the natural state this interpretation is missing. The nature of the mind is pure and perfect.
Everything manifests from the natural state and everything dissolves in it. Therefore, in the Bon tradition, Dzogchen is considered the highest and most profound system of practice. Through practice, a permanently revealed natural state can be achieved. Thus, this will be permanent and in everyday life.
During the practice, the flow of energy through the body and internal systems balances spontaneously and naturally. Attachments also diminish in everyday life, and lucidity and clarity become more intense. The body, thoughts, all manifestations and what we call external circumstances are transformed as we integrate the practice into everyday life.
