ATMOS 01. Specular Field Unit
Experimenting with textile surfaces at 🌱 & ASK, Summer 2025

The telescopic structure supports a specular textile membrane — a material used in both agriculture and space research — capable of reflecting sunlight and creating shade. A wind sock placed at the top of the structure measures and reveals the movement and intensity of air currents, acting as a visible signal of atmospheric force. The prototype functions as a collective resource for field-based research and learning activities, becoming a shared tool for exploring and understanding the site.

Topometrii invizibile

Printre ruine, calcane și spații abandonate, într-o zonă marcată de demolări agresive, o serie de borne metalice de înălțimi variate propun reconectarea locului cu straturile lui urbane și naturale.

Printr-o dispunere oblică față de stradă, ce amintește de vechiul țesut dispărut, instalația liniară se deschide către oraș, invitând la utilizări multiple și socializare în spațiu public. Proiectul colectează apa de ploaie de pe un fragment de imobil care a scăpat demolărilor, conducând-o către o zonă cu plante domestice și sălbatice, pe locul unei curți interioare dispărute. Amintirea perioadei premoderne, când zona era umedă și berzele își făceau cuiburi, re-trasează scenarii alternative legate de viitor, în care biodiversitatea și coexistența dintre locuirea umană și non-umană erau mai apropiate.

Transformând borna dintr-un instrument de măsurare și control, într-un reper spațial de vecinătate, proiectul speculează asupra unor scenarii de mediere urbană, punând în dialog configurații spațiale anterioare cu perspective de viitor.

Atmos 1 is a point of contact between people, soil and atmosphere. The device functions as a mobile unit, temporarily positioned in an open field, creating space for multiple scenarios of learning and exchange.

co-LIZA is present at EU at Expo during World Expo Osaka 2025 as part of Design Beyond Things group exhibition from 31 August to 13 September.

Opening talks: 4 September 3 -5 pm at Belgium Pavilion, followed by a guided visit and a casual drink at the EU Pavilion.

co-LIZA is a mobile and adaptable unit for collective activities. The object is intended as a community activation tool, easy to transport over relatively short distances in its neighbourhood. Its uses can be diverse, from exhibitions and workshops, to play, sports, parties and cooking.

Atelier Ad Hoc will take part in “𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬” at Expo 2025 Osaka, organised by the European Union.
“𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧” is a collective exhibition showcasing the new lexicon of contemporary European design. It explores themes such as permission, prohibition, and the evolving language of design. Together, these elements invite visitors to reflect on the transformative power of design in a time of profound social change and a pressing need for new hopes for the future.

Atelier Ad Hoc va participa la „𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬” în cadrul Expo 2025 Osaka, eveniment organizat de Uniunea Europeană.
„𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧” este o expoziție colectivă ce prezintă noul lexicon al designului contemporan european. Today at Aedes Metropolitan Laboratory in Berlin

✨Representing Romania at NEXT! – Young European Design, Atelier Ad Hoc is a Bucharest-based architecture team led by George Marinescu and Maria Daria Oancea. Their dual practice - both an architectural studio and a non-governmental association, explores how we live, what we share, and how we care for each other through architecture.
From experimental housing solutions to community-driven urban interventions, their work addresses contemporary urban challenges with a critical and sensitive approach. Atelier Ad Hoc delivers projects rooted in design precision and resource planning, while Atelier Ad Hoc Comunitate works directly with marginalized communities to imagine alternative ways of living and supporting one another.
Daria and George have worked together since 2015, with backgrounds in both Bucharest and Venice, and were fellows at Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. Their work reflects a deep commitment to social engagement, architectural experimentation, and the complexities of urban life.🧱
