OUR POLICIES
Community Based Development (CBD)
Development a multifaceted process involving the mobilisation and use of physical, financial and human resources to improve standards of living in all aspects – social, economic, cultural, political and environmental aspects. Community-Based Development puts grassroots people (communities) at the centre of the development processes. Communities cea
se to be passive beneficiaries of the desired change and instead become drivers of that change. This transformation is a continuous internal process that builds on the human and social capital that exists in a community, a process that may also be accelerated by outside assistance. The primary purpose of CBD is to help individuals and communities to gain greater control of their lives by giving them opportunities and resources to develop knowledge, skills and motivation to pursue positive change at personal or community level. The ultimate goal of Community-Based Development is to improve the quality of life in the community. Therefore, Emeritus promotes not only projects aiming to raise funds and collect goods and services to delivery to a specific disadvantaged group but also activities such as trainings to enable targeted communities to improve life standards and benefit of technological innovation. Moreover, Emeritus believes in the importance of communication and information to fill the bridge gaps between disadvantaged communities and the rest of the world. Long-term programming rather than the short-term approach is essential to CBD. This has financial and other resource considerations. Community capacity building and strengthening are essential. This implies working with and enhancing the work of existing structures and systems. Working with governments and other like-minded development actors in a partnership and collaborative approach catalyses better a sustainable CBD. Communication, information and transparency
Emeritus believes in the importance of communication and information to fill the bridge gaps between disadvantaged communities and the rest of the world. Insights, reviews and stories from our targeted communities will be constantly displayed on our web sites, press releases, events and publications in order to allow public to better understand the issues of disadvantaged communities we aim to help and to check out the tangible results of our projects. Reports about our activities and projects will always be available on our web site and on other means of communication as well as up- to- date information on the state of our projects. Sometimes the only chance for neglected and forgotten groups is that offered by organizations like Emeritus who is engaged in a constant effort to put into the foreground their stories along with their difficulties. Our core principle is that to perform and display our initiatives allowing donators and beneficiaries of our projects to follow and experience directly and in real time the process through which we aim to make a change and improve life standards.
