Across Europe, the Natura 2000 network protects 18% of the continent's land surface. But a network is only as strong as the people who manage it. That's exactly why the project Propark is developing together with BUND Thüringen matters: training specialists in Natura 2000 site management, at a European scale.
Between June 9–11, consortium partners gathered in Brașov for their first in-person working meeting. The days were filled with genuine knowledge exchange, about how protected area management works in Germany, what the challenges look like in Romania, and where these two worlds meet in a shared training programme.
Propark is co-leading the project alongside BUND Thüringen, bringing years of experience in training nature conservation specialists in Romania. Together, the two organisations are developing a modular curriculum designed to be adapted across EU member states, including candidate countries.
The project is funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) and runs until March 2027.
