Yesterday, the AEMOB Forum Executive Committee convened at the InterContinental Hotel Doha to review key project updates, align on strategic priorities, and further strengthen preparations for the Autonomous e-Mobility Forum 2026.

The meeting served as an important milestone in ensuring continued collaboration across leadership as the forum moves closer to delivering a high-impact platform focused on shaping the future of autonomous, electric, and intelligent mobility.

Understanding autonomy starts with the basics. 🚗⚡

From Level 0 (no automation) to Level 5 (full autonomy), each stage represents a shift in how responsibility moves from driver to machine.

At the lower levels, systems assist with tasks like braking, steering, and cruise control — but the driver remains fully in charge. As you move up, vehicles begin to handle multiple functions simultaneously, with Level 3 introducing conditional automation where the car can make decisions in certain environments.

By Level 4, vehicles can operate independently in defined conditions with minimal human input. And at Level 5, the vision is complete autonomy — no driver, no steering wheel, just fully self-driving systems.

The journey from L0 to L5 isn’t just about technology — it’s about safety, regulation, infrastructure, and trust.

The question isn’t if we get there — it’s how fast.

Geely, the Chinese Car manufacturer, has launched at the Beijing Motor Show its new I-HEV Hybrid engine, which leads us into a new dimension with 2,2 litres of fuel consumption for 100KM.

The system uses energy created during breaking and releases it back into the system when accelerating, just like in Formula 1.

In comparison, the best-performing hybrids have come from Honda and Toyota, with an efficiency of 41%. A normal combustion engine can achieve up to 38 %. The new Geely can reach up to 48,4 % and shows that fuel efficiency has not yet reached its limits and will drive sustainability in the industry in the right direction.

Transport still accounts for around one-fifth of global CO₂ emissions. Three-quarters of this is from road transport. Transport accounts for around one-fifth of global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions — 24% if we only consider CO2 emissions from energy.
