🚨 FORWARD PROGRESS STOPPED 🚨

Marin County fire crews continue working a vegetation fire near 81 W Nicasio Road in San Geronimo Valley.

The fire grew to an estimated 1–2 acres with a moderate rate of spread and threatened one nearby structure. Smoke was also reported inside a residence during the incident.

The latest information indicates firefighters have knocked down the fire’s forward progress, but multiple resources remain assigned to the incident, with additional engines still responding as crews work to secure the scene and ensure the fire remains contained.

Current Situation

🔥 Estimated at 1–2 acres
🌾 Burning in grass fuels
⚡ Downed power line reported near the origin area
🏠 One structure threatened
💨 Smoke reported inside a residence
🚒 Firefighters report the fire has been knocked down
✅ Crews remain on scene conducting containment and mop-up operations

This appears to be a strong initial attack by firefighters that prevented the fire from growing larger and helped protect nearby homes.

Wildfire season is approaching, and now is the time to take action to help protect your home and property. 🔥🌲

Permit Sonoma reminds residents that clearing vegetation around structures is one of the most effective steps you can take to create defensible space. The Sonoma County Fire Prevention Division offers FREE chipping services for residents in unincorporated Sonoma County who are actively reducing wildfire risk around homes, structures and access roads. 🚛🌿

Before scheduling your pickup, please prepare your piles carefully:
• Stack limbs neatly with cut ends facing the roadway or driveway
• Limbs must be 1"–4" in diameter
• Place piles within 10 feet of the road or driveway
• Do not include leaves, vines, bamboo, poison oak, construction wood or fire debris 🚫

Properly prepared piles help crews work safely and efficiently and keep the program running smoothly for everyone. Learn more and get your property ready: https://permitsonoma.org/chipperprogram

Most wildfires are caused by human activity, and many begin with everyday actions that seem harmless until conditions become dangerous. With dry vegetation, warm temperatures, low humidity, and gusty winds across much of California, now is the time to be extra cautious.

Never leave campfires, fire pits, or burning brush unattended, and always fully extinguish them before leaving the area. Use grills and smokers only on paved or gravel surfaces away from dry grass. Never throw ci******es from vehicles or onto the ground, and always dispose of ashes in a metal container with a tight-fitting lid.

Vehicle related sparks are another common cause of wildfire starts. Keep brakes and tires properly maintained, secure tow chains so they do not drag, and avoid driving or parking on dry grass. When mowing or using equipment outdoors, try to do so during cooler parts of the day and avoid operating machinery during windy conditions.

Always follow local burn bans and fire restrictions. Even a single spark can quickly become a fast moving wildfire when conditions are right.

A few moments of prevention can protect homes, families, pets, wildlife, and entire communities.

Stay aware. Stay prepared. Help prevent the next wildfire.

A Coastal Flood Advisory is currently in effect for Bayshore locations in the North Bay through the early morning of Wednesday, June 17th due to minor coastal flooding near the high tide. Up to 1.8 feet of inundation above ground level is expected in low lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. Allow extra time for travel, do not drive around barricades or through water, and protect flood-prone property!
