Yes we care and manage community cats but we have also helped and rehomed 16 dogs so far.

Introducing Misia ❤️

Misia was found a few weeks ago and despite our dear friend and volunteer Diana trying to find her human knowone came forward .

Misia has just been spayed sadly it was a spay abort but the best soultion for her and the many unwanted dogs here.

She is recovering well with a foster near Benafim.

She is negative for liesh and heartworm but currently being treated for tick fever.

Misia is approx 2 yeras old ,very sweet ,a timid little bundle at 7kg she is very easy to handle but does not understand the lead yet. Once she recovers we will start a few traing sessions with her and get her out and about to meet people. We do know that she does not like cats !

Misia is micrichipoed and will have vaccinations asap.

TNR
One female spayed today from near Messines . Thankyou Amy and Richard for trapping her and the inbound vet run .

This female was covered in ticks hopefully she will be feeling better now she has had them removed and been given parasite treatment .
A local lady will continue to feed her .

TNR will continue week 17th October due to holidays.

A bit of a round up !

This last week has been mostly vet apponitments and maintence or building projects . Organising the auction and our lunch on saturday 😋

Muffin who was found at an external colony was taken into our foster care and had a clear health check on Monday. Muffin is only 8 weeks old she is alone so we need to find her a home asap.

Bluie
What can i say this poor boy has had a bit of a time of it . Being found by a local lady at the tip he was only 1 km away from his colony . Bluie went missing over 6 months ago from the village colony so we think somone may have taken him and he has either wondered off or they abandoned him at the bins
He is very tame and shy. He is sadly now FIV postive ( he was negative when he first came to our village colony 2 years ago and castrated ) fighting must have caused this . Apart from that he had a terrible worm infestation and has two tweeh that need to come out . That operation is booked for Friday 18th so we get him well asap and his forever home can be found. Please email [email protected] or pm if you are interested in him. Can be with 1 or 2 friendly cats non fighters or another FHiv cat . Or the only cat as he loves human contact. No small chidren as he uses his right arm to instigate play and this may frighten small chidren.

Zee a kittle kitten that was found in a supporters garden had a vet check in Monday and we have already found his purr fect matching home 🏡 ❤️
Huge thankyou to David and his wife for finding him and fostering him until his new mum can take him.

Sam is at the vets today . He has a weepy eye and also time for his leishimonisis check up.
He has been doing really well with his human Tracy-Jane Pooler who spoils him and the rest of the cats at hers !! PDA Community cats sponsor Sam for his medications and parasite treatments as we are so grateful to Tracey to take care of him ❤️

Remember little skinny cat found in Alte at the beggining of the summer ? Well Mouse as she is now known is so well and happy after her human Ronny became another 'failed foster' 😆
Mouse is well enough to have some teeth out now so she will go in asap.

Maintenance
Lovely friend and volunteer Diana Jepson has been very busy putting bark in the retreat and she kindly also put some in my front garden !
The Retreat needs new tarps and we need more toys if anyone wishes to donate either please pm 🙏
There has been a lot of work going on at The new 'Hillside Village 'Colony near Silves. The caretaker has worked so hard to get the set up right. Shaded from the heat and planning for the bad weather too !
The mum and 4 kittens were moved into the new avery and one of the exsiting black colony cats has already been up to them to see whats going on !
Mum will remain in the avery for about 3 weeks or until we get the fencing up which is now the priority . The kittens will stay in there until they are all sterilsed in mid October .

We now have two cat houses ready there for them.

We are very grateful to Sarah and Steve for their geneous donation which mrans we now have enough to order the fencing 🙏❤️

Then we need to find someone to errect it so if you know anyone expirenced and reliable please let us know 🙏

A few weeks ago we asked for donations towards a avery for our new colony 'Hillside Village' Silves

Our dear friend and caretaker has worked hard to provide the base and strengthen the avery for the windy weather !
We raised €180 towards the avery . The caretaker ordered and paid for the avery and has said to use the €180 towards the pickett fencing so the cats can come and go but the dogs cannot !
The land has been generously loaned to this project by the kind nieghbours .
The fencing will cost approx €700 so please can we ask for your help so we can provide a safe space for the mum and 4 kittens we rescued from a busy road 2 months ago and the 2 cats already living there. 😊

Update 2
Aplogies for delay in updating.
We recieved enough funds to cover this poor souls ,tests consutlation , end of life and cremation.
We had €62 left which went towards a vet bill for a white cat from Alte last week. Thankyou Diane McDermott for helping me trap. This white cat is one of two who will need to return to the vet asap we can catch them. One has skin cancer on the ears. I will make a seperate post asap. Not enough hours on the day or night atvthe moment !

Another poor soul needing vetinary attention.
A lady sent a pm asking us to help this boy.
Same story she feeds him but has no car so cannot borrow a trap and take tobthe vet ,cant afford a vet , but if he is ok she will keep him!
Well the truth is we have no money for a vet!
Im not a magician but this soul needs a check and if well enough castration.
We do hace funds set aside for sterilsations thanks to Dpdsaa animal charity however everytime we trap a cat the costs for us multiply
I really hope this boy will be ok he is waiting at the vets as they are busy and this was short notice so we are grateful they can see him today.
Please if you can spare a euro to go towards his bill we would ge so grateful 🙏 we can inly help them if we have funds and we do not have any until our next Auction for street Cats Algarve which starts on the 4th September. We do not enjoy begging for funds but when we recieve calls like this we have to do it for the cat .

TNR PROGRAMS: A MUNICIPAL RESPONSIBILITY

Throughout the country, there are stray or feral cats that survive thanks to the daily care of people who voluntarily feed them and seek to ensure their well-being – Thank you!

TNR programs – Trap, Neuter, and Return – are mandatory by law and essential for the responsible management of cat colonies and should be implemented by Municipal Governments, according to the needs and specificities of each community.

🔹 Sterilization is Prevention – Preventing unwanted reproduction should be one of the pillars of municipal animal health and welfare policies.

📢 The Animal Ombudsman reiterates to the Municipal Chambers the duty to:

1. Integrate stray or feral cats identified in the municipal TNR program, guaranteeing their capture, sterilization, and return;

2. Carry out these interventions without requiring caregivers to own the animals or pay the respective veterinary medical fees;

3. Ensure the electronic identification and registration of the intervened animals in the name of the Municipality, and not of the people who voluntarily feed and accompany them;

4. Recognize and frame the collaboration of caregivers, clearly distinguishing this voluntary function from the individual ownership of the animals;

5. Continuously and progressively strengthen the TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) program and, when technically appropriate, create controlled feeding points with hygienic, sanitary, and sanitary surveillance conditions.
