Paypal.me/montedosvagabundos Monte dos Vagabundos is a run-free sanctuary on a 4 hectares fenced property in Sao Teotonio, Alentejo. While the property has been bought with personal funding, we fully rely on your support for monthly running expenses (1500.- euros). We are responsible for the following vagabundos:
1 horse (Milhao , now in livery in
Sundance Ranch as we did not want him to stay alone after the passing of our dear Lica)
5 pigs (big dady poncho, Lucia, Fernanda, Lola, Scarface)
19 dogs on-site (Duque, Hanna/nana, Cusca, Olive, Tahonce, Quirambo, Malua, Lu, Matemo, Patchy, Bolinhas, Mama, Kauri, Pointy, Kiko and Nino, Jazz, Quirimba and last but not least, Leo). Some of them were rescued in Mozambique and brought back with me when I had to move back to Europe in 2019 and the others were rescued in Portugal. We are also responsible for Ninja, staying with a friend, and Monty, now undergoing intensive training for 6 months in a specialised dog hotel. Luna and Tara and Lobita was happily adopted by volunteers/friends, and Castanha and Fo died end of 2022. But some huge tasks are still ahead of us to make us financially sustainable:
- find godfathers/godmothers to send monthly support to cover for food/regular meds
- creating a website
- keeping social networking live
- become financially sustainable through the extension of our small glamping project, organising some visits/brunch, and immersion days with doggies to fight fears...
Our vision:
Before anything, we want Monte dos Vagabundos to be a safe heaven to animals in need:
1) forgotten dogs, the ones no one want, in kennels for way too long, the too old, too small, too big, too sick, too whatever, as we love them just the way they are and want to give them the love and care they deserve for the rest of their life.
2) mid-term pensionate dogs, sent by other rescue associations until they find a forever family for them (FAT).
3) farm animals who come through Animal Save Portugal, mostly livestock saved from a certain death and need a safe place to hide and live the life :-)
