Sometimes the child isn't "acting out."
They're seeking sensory input.
And before we rush to stop the spinning, climbing, crashing, hanging upside down, or running in circles...
We should ask:
What need is their body trying to meet?
Children often know exactly what they need long before adults understand why they need it.
"We can trust that most children know what they need." — Dr. Zoe Mailloux

Jean Ayres, the pioneer of sensory integration, and has spent her career advancing how we understand and support children with sensory differences, including autism.
