What makes TechLaunch 2026 different?

This year’s edition includes an enhanced support structure for selected teams, helping them carry out the activities needed to test the market potential of science- and technology-based solutions.

Selected teams may access an indicative budget to support eligible expenses related to customer discovery, validation activities, prototyping, and participation in the program’s immersive components, including the Opening Week in Portugal and the Closing Week at The University of Texas at Austin.

This support does not constitute direct funding or a fixed allocation. It is managed through approved eligible expenses, in line with the program’s rules and applicable funding requirements.

Over seven weeks, teams will be guided through a hands-on process modeled after the NSF I-Corps™ approach, engaging directly with potential customers, users, and stakeholders to refine their value proposition and explore pathways toward real-world impact.

Deadline for submissions: June 19, 2026

On this Earth Day, we are reminded that caring for the planet begins with understanding it better.

From monitoring environmental change to advancing cleaner energy systems, the path toward more resilient futures depends on knowledge, scientific ambition, and the ability to turn research into meaningful action.

This is why areas such as Space–Earth Technologies and Clean Energy are so important. They help generate the insight, tools, and solutions needed to respond more effectively to complex challenges, from environmental monitoring and risk prevention to the long-term transition toward more sustainable systems.

At the UT Austin Portugal Program, we see this not as a symbolic gesture, but as part of a broader commitment to supporting research and collaboration that can contribute to more informed decisions, stronger resilience, and a better future for people and planet.

On , we recognize the role of science, cooperation, and long-term commitment in helping build that future.

Two Portuguese deep-tech companies have now joined Startup2Scaleup 2026.

We are pleased to announce that StratioBD and Enline are the first two companies selected for this year’s cohort.

Their selection reflects the level of ambition, technological maturity, and international readiness that Startup2Scaleup is designed to support: Portuguese companies prepared to scale internationally and engage with the U.S. market in a focused and strategic way.

Delivered by The University of Texas at Austin’s Global Innovation Lab through the UT Austin Portugal Program, Startup2Scaleup is a highly selective, ex*****on-driven initiative designed to help deep-tech companies convert innovation into real commercial traction in the U.S.

Over the next 12 months, these companies will work closely with the GIL team to validate and execute a U.S. go-to-market strategy, engage with prospective customers, partners, and potential investors, and build long-term connections with the Texas and broader U.S. business and innovation ecosystem.

Applications remain open for the current cohort, with two additional places still available, learn more: https://utaustinportugal.org/s2s/

These visits are not symbolic exchanges. They produce tangible outcomes.

At the recent UT Austin Portugal Exchange Researchers Seminar, visiting researchers from the current 2025/2026 cohort presented the work advanced during their mobility period at UT Austin and reflected on the scientific and personal value of the experience.

The projects presented spanned biomedical research, advanced materials, remote sensing, AI, and machine learning. Different fields, different questions but a common result: mobility, when well designed, accelerates research, opens access to new expertise, and creates the conditions for stronger collaboration.

The seminar was also a reminder that international research experience matters not only for what it produces in the short term, but for the confidence, networks, and future pathways it helps build.

More on the seminar and this cohort’s experience:

The UT Austin Portugal Program recently held another edition of its Exchange Researchers Seminar at The University of Texas at Austin, bringing together visiting researchers from the current 2025/2026 cohort, who are nearing the end of their mobility period, to present the work developed during thei...
