Let us recognize that there are ties between us, all men and women, living on Earth; ties of hope and love, sister and brotherhood, that we are bound together in our desire to see the world become a place in which our children can grow free and strong. We are bound together by the task that stands before us, and the road that was lies ahead. Like many island communities, you won't immediately see families with medical situations, hunger, children in need, and unemployment. The Love Fund is designed to help these families in this wonderful Portuguese village, a place where families can turn for help regardless of background, political or religious views, and where there is no-stress relief without fear of repayment. The Love Fund and your help improves life around the island:
Discreet monetary grants to families making life happier and healthier until times get better;
Community networking which can put families in touch with community resources, government, public and private;
Anonymous nominations from the public via a web site with no connections to civic or political authorities, any religious organizations, or any community members outside of the Love Fund;
Selections made quickly by a small community board;
Fund raising events and programs for donations from supportive and like-minded families and businesses. MISSION AND GOALS
The Love Fund's mission is straightforward and simple:
Identify families who need some financial assistance or contact with various island resources to increase happiness, fulfill their potential, and give back to this community. Terceira is a small island of fishermen, farmers, restaurateurs, and entrepreneurs, many who have lived here for generations. We retired to Terceira from the US and have been embraced by the entire local community. Upon learning about some families who are just having a little trouble getting “over a hump”, we decided to start the fund to help channel gifts to these families, be they struggling from family tragedy, medical issues, seasonal problems with fishing, construction, tourism, or farming. The Love Fund was created with the vision of:
