Engaging youth starts here 🎯

We’re launching a new video series introducing the Engage Youth platform and its eight key mechanisms of youth engagement, each explored through the voices of expert practitioners from across Europe.

In this first video, discover briefly the speakers and the mechanisms we will explore, and understand why structured youth participation is essential for stronger, more inclusive democracy.

Across the series, each video will dive into one engagement mechanism, bringing real insights, experiences, and tools from those working directly with youth participation in communities, institutions, and organisations.

EngageYouth is a free, practical tool designed for municipalities, youth workers, NGOs, policymakers, and young people to design meaningful and effective participation processes.

DYPALL Network attended the “Local Democracy that Delivers”, ALDA General Assembly and Festival 2026 in Malta, organised by ALDA - European Association for Local Democracy from 13 - 15 May.

The three-day event brought together civil society organisations, local authorities, institutional partners, and stakeholders committed to strengthening democratic systems at the local level.

The event reaffirmed the importance of a multi-level approach, from the local to the international level. Building a democracy that works for everyone means strengthening local democracies, making them more participatory, effective, and connected to people’s needs.

The main themes discussed throughout the three-day event included:
▪ Local democracy as the driving force for delivery, as the local level is the closest to citizens
▪ Participation as the key element, as democratic processes work best when citizens are actively involved
▪ Local democracies as the foundation for trust and dialogue with national institutions
▪ Local democracies as part of a global network, fostering stronger alliances and mutual support

Last week, DYPALL Network participated in a series of strategic activities in Brussels as part of the European Youth Week 2026 🇪🇺✨

The week kicked off with the opening session at the European Parliament, followed by a roundtable discussion with youth representatives from the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) on meaningful youth participation in practice. We also held our DYPALL Steering Group meeting, focused on the network’s priorities and upcoming actions.

A key highlight was the work developed within the European Network of Local Youth Councils (ENLYC). On 28 April, ENLYC members gathered for the Working Group Meeting to shape the network’s roadmap and start preparing the first ENLYC Conference, taking place this December.

The following day, the international seminar “The Role of Local Youth Councils in Europe: Strengthening Local Democracies” explored how local youth councils can play a stronger role in democratic governance and youth participation at local level.

The study session “Young, Informed and Involved: Strenghtening Democratic Literacy and Media Participation” took place from 22nd - 28th March in Strasbourg, France.

It gathered together 39 young people from 22 countries, including journalists and content creators, creating space for exchange, reflection, and collaboration on the connection between youth participation and media literacy. Participants explored topics such as democracy, ethical storytelling, and civic journalism.

Through interactive workshops, group discussions, simulation exercises, and role plays, they strengthened their ability to identify disinformation, reflect on the role of civic journalism, and develop tools to engage other young people in democratic life.

The activity was organised by the European Youth Press in cooperation with DYPALL Network and the Council of Europe Youth.
