Help us support people and nature affected by wildfires on Madeira

🌿 Update from MadeiraFireAid 🔥

Dear supporters,

First of all, thank you for your generosity and patience! We know it’s been a long time since our last update, and we truly appreciate your trust.

Since the devastating Madeira wildfires of October 2023, we’ve been working to ensure your donations make the greatest impact. After initially providing food for animals of affected farmers, we’ve now taken another big step forward:

✅ Tin roofing sheets delivered – helping farmers rebuild 8 barns lost in the fires.
✅ More support on the way – 3 additional barns will be repaired once farmers are ready.
✅ Future plans – We’re using the remaining funds to plant trees in the west of the island, ensuring proper reforestation where we can personally oversee the process.

Unfortunately, bureaucratic delays and unfulfilled government promises slowed things down, but we’ve stayed committed to ensuring every cent goes where it’s needed most. Your support has made a real difference in helping local families rebuild. ❤️

We are so happy to share with you that the Junta de Freguesia in Faja de Ovelha received our first donation! 🙈🥹😍🎉

The animal feed will be fairly distributed to the farmers who lost all their animal feed and whose pastures completely burned down 🔥

Thanks to all your help, the farmers whose animals were completely without food will survived this horrible event! 🙏🏻

The amount of food that was delivered will feed the animals for a week, and provide essential help during the hardest time. ☺️

One week. It’s been one week since the fires in the west of Madeira have been put out. While the immediate danger has been extinguished, farmers and their families have a long road ahead of them before life goes back to normal. There are pressing needs affecting the survival of their animals and their livelihoods. We will do everything we can to assist them until they, too can put this disaster behind them. Join us in our efforts!

We sat down with Gabriel Neto, the president of Fajã da Ovelha Junta da Freguesia to discuss the URGENT needs of his parish. Like in Ponta do Pargo, over 90% of the area has been burnt and the parish urgently needs our help!! The biggest priority right now is animal feed as all the pasture is gone. We are preparing to take immediate action to provide food for the animals!! Sentámo-nos com Gabriel Neto, o presidente da Junta da Freguesia da Fajã da Ovelha para discutir as necessidades URGENTES da sua freguesia. Tal como na Ponta do Pargo, mais de 90% da área foi queimada e a freguesia precisa urgentemente da nossa ajuda!!! A maior prioridade neste momento é a alimentação dos animais, uma vez que todos os pastos desapareceram. Estamos a preparar-nos para tomar medidas imediatas para fornecer alimentos aos animais!!

Professionally, Julie is the Head of Product at iMusician and has a Masters Degree in Development Economics and a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management. In her spare time, Julie is farming vegetables on a small piece of land in Estreito da Calheta. Conheça a nossa equipa: Julie. Today, he works as a Blockchain Security Engineer at Trail of Bits. Inspired by the natural beauty and vibrant tech landscape of Madeira, Kurt discovered a sense of belonging within its tight-knit communities. Conheça a nossa equipa: Kurt. Depois de construir uma base sólida em matemática e aprendizado de máquina em Berlim, Kurt deu um salto para o empreendedorismo e co-fundou uma empresa web3 em 2021. Atualmente, trabalha como Engenheiro de Segurança Blockchain na Trail of Bits. Meet our team: Nina. Having found the gem of Madeira during the launch of the digital nomad village in March 2021, Nina fell in love with the island and its beautiful nature. She has a university degree in Economics with an emphasis on tourism and travel management. She has sharpened her skills in the hospitality industry, managing eco-villages across the globe from Costa Rica to the Philippines. In 2019, she played a pivotal role in launching the grand Lexias Hostel chain, overseeing branding, marketing, and HR. Nowadays, Nina orchestrates international trips for travelers and manages co-living spaces and retreats in Madeira, handling everything from marketing to trip coordination. In her free time, she indulges in daily yoga practices, spending time with animals or going on adventurous hiking tours on the island. Conheça a nossa equipa: Nina. Tendo encontrado a joia da Madeira durante o lançamento da aldeia nómada digital em março de 2021, a Nina apaixonou-se pela ilha e pela sua bela natureza. Tem uma licenciatura em Economia com ênfase em turismo e gestão de viagens. Meet our team: Inga. After her Masters in International Management and several jobs in the Corporate world, Inga left the profit world behind and worked for several non profit organizations in the US, Kenya and the Philippines. Working especially with women (women empowerment programmes) and orphans (Exhibition Our Faces, USA, 2009 ). After becoming a mother herself, she made her lifelong talent and passion of photography and yogic science and technology into her main profession. (KRI certified).
Three years ago she followed a deep calling and moved to Madeira Island. Her main focus and vision is to help transform consciousness, bring back authentic connection and build a self-sustainable and spiritual community with locals and expats in the South-West of Madeira.

Após o seu mestrado em Gestão Internacional e vários empregos no mundo empresarial, Inga deixou o mundo do lucro para trás e trabalhou para várias organizações sem fins lucrativos nos EUA, no Quénia e nas Filipinas.
