What does it take to develop clinically meaningful AI while protecting health data and maintaining trust?

Join the AISym4MED – Horizon Europe Final Event, “Trustworthy AI for Healthcare: From Research to Policy”, on 15 October in Brussels.

A central part of the programme will be the policy roundtable, “Building Clinically Meaningful AI: Legal and Ethical Challenges Around Data, Evidence and Accountability”. The discussion will examine how data protection, privacy-preserving technologies and clinical utility can be balanced while ensuring robust evidence, fairness, accountability and patient safety.

The event will also connect project results with current European priorities such as the AI Act and the European Health Data Space, and will create space for dialogue between research, policy and practice.

Our project 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗖𝗼𝗶𝗻 — commissioned by Imprensa Nacional-Casa da Moeda (INCM) — has been awarded the 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗺 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿 in the Hobby & Sports / Hobbies Products: Collecting category.

Designed for the “Portuguese Lighthouses” commemorative coin series (Cabo de São Vicente), BrightCoin transforms traditional coin packaging into an interactive, collectible display. Inspired by lighthouse architecture and circular geometry, the enclosure integrates embedded electronics, USB-C charging, and automatic coin charging via pogo-pin contacts. Lifting the transparent lid triggers a soft illumination sequence that brings the coin’s heritage to light.

This award reflects the power of human-centred design and multidisciplinary innovation to push the boundaries of physical and digital product experiences.

Yesterday at EWSN '26, our researcher Fernando Rego shared our team's recent research on network-aware orchestration!

Managing dynamic environments requires constant visibility. Our proposed system tackles this by using hybrid probing to build real-time network topologies. By continuously tracking key parameters like latency and throughput, it enables intelligent placement decisions while strictly preserving application QoS requirements.

Combining world-class artificial intelligence with practical digital tools, our research team at Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS is leading a technological shift in Portuguese viticulture through the 𝗩𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗿 project.

Kicked off earlier this year, this 36-month initiative co-funded by the European Union leverages state-of-the-art Computer Vision and AI algorithms to preserve and elevate Portugal’s winemaking heritage.

In partnership with GEODOURO, advanced capabilities - such as 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗩𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 - are being integrated directly into the SIGP platform, bringing research directly to agricultural end-users alongside key partners like Plantivet, Quinta do Crasto, Esporão S.A., and Vivai Cooperativi Rauscedo (VCR).
