Before the whole world knew their names, two future Ballon d'Or winners were just boys in the green and white shirt of Sporting. 💚🤍
Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo grew up in the academy that became a factory of dreams, and the same school gave the club Quaresma, Nani and Moutinho, so every time Alvalade sings, it sings for the boys who became men in front of it.
In 2000, after eighteen years of waiting, Sporting won the league on the last day with a four goals to nil win over Salgueiros, with Schmeichel in goal and Acosta, Sá Pinto and Pedro Barbosa leading the way. Two years later Jardel scored forty two goals in a single season and the Lions were champions again.
In 2005 the UEFA Cup final was played in Alvalade itself, Sporting led at half time, and CSKA Moscow turned the night into a three goals to one defeat, and the green and white crowd went home with broken hearts.
Bruno Fernandes, Liédson, Polga, Beto, Rui Patrício, William Carvalho, Adrien Silva and Acuña carried the shirt through years of hope, until in 2021 Coates and Pote ended a nineteen year wait for the league title. Then Gyökeres and Hjulmand made Alvalade roar for two titles in a row in 2024 and 2025, the first back to back league titles in more than seventy years.
And in 2026, the Lions finished second with 82 points, reached the Champions League quarter finals and then lost the Taça de Portugal final in extra time, a season that ended in tears even though they fought until the very last minute.
Sporting Clube de Portugal is not a club you only watch, it is a club you belong to. Esforço, Dedicação, Devoção e Glória, forever green and white. 💚🤍
