O Estrela UNESCO Global Geopark tem por missão contribuir para a proteção, valorização e dinamização do património natural e cultural, com especial ênfase no património geológico, numa perspetiva de aprofundamento e divulgação do conhecimento científico, fomentando o turismo e o desenvolvimento sustentável do território do Geopark Estrela, com uma área de área total: 2.216 Km2 e cerca de 170.000 habitantes, pertencentes aos municípios de Belmonte, Celorico da Beira, Covilhã, Fornos de Algodres, Gouveia, Guarda, Manteigas, Oliveira do Hospital e Seia, bem como apostar na melhoria da qualidade de vida das populações dando amplo relevo à educação, ao desporto, às artes, à cultura e ao turismo, promovendo a competitividade territorial do destino Serra da Estrela.

🇵🇹 A Rota dos Glaciares está de volta! No próximo dia 24 de outubro vem percorrer o Vale Glaciário do Zêzere, o mais impressionante testemunho da última glaciação na serra da Estrela. Ao longo de dezenas de milhares de anos, as grandes massas de gelo que desciam a Montanha moldaram este extenso e profundo vale, deixando as marcas que ainda hoje observamos na paisagem. Desde Manteigas até ao Planalto da Torre, passando pelo Covão da Ametade e pelo Cântaro Gordo, percorremos um trilho que nos leva a descobrir alguns dos mais notáveis elementos do património geológico da Estrela. Esta é, sem dúvida, uma caminhada por paisagens de rara beleza, onde a geologia e a história natural se revelam a cada passo! Junta-te a nós e vem descobrir as histórias que a Estrela tem para te contar! ⛰️🧊🥾

🇬🇧 The Glacier Trail is back! On October 24th, come and explore the Zêzere Glacial Valley, the most impressive reminder of the last ice age in the serra da Estrela. Over tens of thousands of years, the vast masses of ice that descended from the mountain shaped this vast and deep valley, leaving the marks that we can still see in the landscape today. From Manteigas to the Planalto da Torre, passing through Covão da Ametade and Cântaro Gordo, we’ll follow a trail that takes us on a journey of discovery through some of the most remarkable features of the Estrela’s geological heritage. This is, without a doubt, a walk through landscapes of rare beauty, where geology and natural history reveal themselves at every step! Join us and come and discover the stories that the Estrela has to tell you! ⛰️🧊🥾

🇵🇹 Vem aí mais uma edição da "Semana do Geopark e da Geodiversidade", que irá decorrer de 6 a 13 de outubro, na mais alta Montanha de Portugal Continental! Ao longo desta semana serão dinamizadas, em parceria com os 9 municípios que integram a área do ESTRELA Geopark Mundial da UNESCO, diversas atividades, de carácter lúdico e educativo, nas quais poderás participar. 🇬🇧 Another edition of “Geopark and Geodiversity Week” is coming up, taking place from October 6th to 13th on the highest mountain in mainland Portugal! Throughout the week, in partnership with the nine local authorities that make up the ESTRELA UNESCO Global Geopark, a range of fun and educational activities will be organised, which you are welcome to join. 🇵🇹 No próximo dia 24 de outubro, a ESTRELA, Geopark Mundial da UNESCO e Reserva da Biosfera da UNESCO, irá realizar mais uma caminhada, integrada no 'Ciência a Caminhar', desta vez no Município de Manteigas. Nesta última manhã de horário de Verão, vamos percorrer uma das encostas da vila de Manteigas, sempre acompanhados pelas paisagens e perspetivas singulares para o icónico Vale glaciário do Zêzere. Apesar de o percurso ser relativamente curto, o encontro está marcado para as 9 horas, uma vez que o ritmo da caminhada será pautado pela exigência das subidas que demarcam os relevos desta Montanha. Esperamos por ti para, juntos, observarmos e partilharmos a Estrela outonal! ⛰️🌲🥾

🇬🇧 On October 24th, ESTRELA, a UNESCO Global Geopark and Biosphere Reserve, will organise another walk as part of the 'Ciência a Caminhar' programme, this time in the municipality of Manteigas. On this last day of summer, we will walk along the slopes of Manteigas village, enjoying the unique landscapes and views of the iconic Zêzere glacial valley along the way. Although the route is relatively short, we will meet at 9 am, as the challenging climbs that characterise this mountainous terrain will dictate the pace of the walk. We look forward to seeing you there so that we can all enjoy the autumn beauty of Estrela together! ⛰️🌲🥾

🇵🇹 No passado dia 26 de setembro, o território da ESTRELA, Geopark Mundial da UNESCO e Reserva da Biosfera da UNESCO, foi o palco de uma nova edição da Caminhada "Zonas Húmidas". Acima dos 1400 metros de altitude, este percurso realçou a importância ecológica e cultural que as turfeiras, os cervunais, os charcos e as lagoas têm para as comunidades, humanas e biológicas, desta Montanha. Envolvidos por uma paisagem marcada pelos tons acinzentados dos blocos graníticos e pelos verdes e dourados dos matos e pastos de altitude (ainda húmidos após o verão), foi possível compreender os grandes movimentos transumantes que moldaram a identidade deste território UNESCO!

🇬🇧 On the 26th of September, the ESTRELA territory, a UNESCO Global Geopark and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, was once again the stage for an edition of the "Wet Lands Guided Walk". Above 1400 meters above sea level, this trail highlighted the cultural and ecological significance that peat bogs, 𝘕𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘶𝘴 grasslands, ponds and lakes have to human and non-human communities that give life to the Mountain. Enveloped by a landscape painted with rocky greys of granitic origin, interrupted by greens and gold in the form of shrubs and high-altitude pastures (still damp after the summer season), made possible for us to understand the major transhumance movements that shaped the identity of this UNESCO territory!

Do Terreno à sala de Aula é o mote dos Serviços Educativos deste Roteiro que pretende compilar, num só documento, a oferta educativa de todos os parceiros. Vem à Estrela e abre o nosso livro, do tamanho desta Montanha ⚒️⛰️

🇬🇧 The Estrela UNESCO Global Geopark is a partner of the Roteiro das Minas e Pontos de Interesse Mineiro e Geológico de Portugal (Mining Route and Points of Mining and Geological Interest of Portugal), promoting knowledge and education about our geological heritage. “From the Field to the Classroom” is the theme of the Educational Services of this Route, which aims to compile, in a single document, the educational offerings of all its partners. 🇵🇹 No passado domingo, no âmbito das comemorações do Dia Mundial do Turismo e inserido na iniciativa "Covilhã em Trilhos”, do Município da Covilhã, a Estrela, Geopark Mundial da UNESCO e Reserva da Biosfera da UNESCO, participou na caminhada interpretada que percorreu o PR13 CVL – “Rota do Granito”. Com início e fim nas Penhas da Saúde, os participantes descobriram a riqueza geológica deste trilho caracterizado por blocos graníticos, como a Pedra do Urso, por vestígios de pastoreio, dos quais a Lapa do Esgalho é exemplo, e ainda pelas amplas vistas sobre os planaltos da Serra da Estrela, o Covão do Teixo e a Cova da Beira. A mais de 1500 metros de altitude, as perspetivas do marco geodésico do Curral do Vento e do Alto dos Capinhas ajudaram a explicar a história desta Montanha e a sensibilizar para a necessidade de preservar a biodiversidade que ela abriga, apesar das ameaças, como os incêndios e as alterações climáticas. 🥾🪨🏔️

🇬🇧 Last Sunday, as part of the World Tourism Day celebrations and within the framework of the 'Covilhã em Trilhos' initiative organised by the Municipality of Covilhã, the Estrela UNESCO Global Geopark and Biosphere Reserve took part in a guided hike along the PR13 CVL 'Granite Route'. Starting and ending in Penhas da Saúde, participants discovered the trail's geological richness, characterised by granite boulders such as the Pedra do Urso formation, traces of pastoral activity (Lapa do Esgalho being a notable example), and sweeping views of the Serra da Estrela plateaus, the Covão do Teixo and the Cova da Beira. At an altitude of over 1,500 meters, the views from the Curral do Vento and Alto dos Capinhas triangulation points offered insights into the history of the mountain and highlighted the importance of preserving its biodiversity, despite threats such as wildfires and climate change. 🥾🪨🏔️

🇵🇹 A Estrela, como território classificado pela UNESCO como Geopark Mundial e Reserva da Biosfera, detém um valor ecológico, cultural, económico e social significativo que atrai ao longo do ano milhares de visitantes. Com o objetivo de sensibilizar para a importância do turismo enquanto motor de desenvolvimento, a ONU instituiu o dia 27 de Setembro como o Dia Mundial do Turismo. Nesta Montanha e ao seu redor, é possível encontrar diferentes tipos de atrações turísticas. Independentemente das preferências de quem procura e de quem explora o potencial turístico deste destino, a sustentabilidade desta atividade deve ser assegurada por todos de forma a garantir a valorização, proteção e conservação deste património comum.

🇬🇧 Estrela, a territory classified by UNESCO as a Global Geopark and a Biosphere Reserve, holds significant ecological, cultural, economic and social value, attracting thousands of visitors throughout the year. With the aim of raising awareness of the importance of tourism as a driver of development, the UN has designated 27 September as World Tourism Day. On and around this mountain, visitors can find a variety of tourist attractions. Regardless of the preferences of those seeking out and exploring the tourist potential of this destination, the sustainability of this activity must be ensured by everyone in order to guarantee the enhancement, protection and conservation of this shared heritage.

🇵🇹 Uma Paisagem em construção 🏔️🍂🍇🍷
O movimento perpétuo das estações do ano traz com ele uma multiplicidade de transformações na paisagem, ao ritmo da luz solar, das temperaturas e das práticas humanas que, ancestralmente, a vão moldando. Por estes dias, o cheiro a mosto invade as casas e os lagares das nossas aldeias. Nas vinhas, que se espraiam no sopé da Montanha, há um corrupio de homens e mulheres que colhem o fruto que há de dar lugar ao vinho. Ainda hoje, o início do outono é sinónimo de vindimas, de encontros e de tradições que, de geração em geração, vão transformando a nossa paisagem!

The ceaseless cycle of the seasons brings a multitude of changes to the landscape, in harmony with sunlight, temperatures, and human practices that have shaped it since time immemorial. At this time of year, the scent of grape must fills the homes and w**e presses of our villages. In the vineyards stretching out at the foot of the mountain, men and women are busy harvesting the grapes that will become w**e. Even today, the start of autumn is synonymous with the grape harvest and the gatherings and traditions that continue to transform our landscape from generation to generation!

🇵🇹 No próximo dia 5 de outubro, a Estrela, Geopark Mundial da UNESCO e Reserva da Biosfera promovem a caminhada “Entre Termas”, ligando as vilas de Unhais da Serra e Manteigas. Mais do que um simples exercício físico, esta caminhada é uma verdadeira aula ao ar livre sobre a falha da Vilariça e a sua influência no aparecimento das águas termais que caracterizam e definem a nossa região. Ao longo do percurso, atravessaremos vales moldados por antigos glaciares, explorando o ciclo da água desde a neve até à nascente. Uma oportunidade única para celebrar a ciência, a natureza e o património geológico da Serra da Estrela. Junta-te a nós em mais uma caminhada onde a ciência e a paisagem se encontram! 💧🥾

🇬🇧 On October 5th, Estrela, a UNESCO Global Geopark and Biosphere Reserve are promoting the ‘Entre Termas’ walk, connecting the villages of Unhais da Serra and Manteigas. More than just physical exercise, this walk is a real outdoor lesson on the Vilariça fault and its influence on the appearance of the thermal waters that characterise and define our region. Along the way, we will cross valleys shaped by ancient glaciers, exploring the water cycle from snow to spring. A unique opportunity to celebrate the science, nature and geological heritage of Serra da Estrela. Join us on another walk where science and landscape meet! 💧🥾

🇵🇹 No sopé da Estrela, a mais imponente Montanha em Portugal Continental, encontramos paisagens intemporais, na qual se destaca a Lage Grande de Meruge, uma relíquia geológica e cultural, do concelho de Oliveira do Hospital. É em torno deste enorme afloramento granítico, que foi sendo esculpido pelos agentes erosivos ao longo de milhares ou até milhões de anos, que se desenvolve a vida social, religiosa e recreativa da freguesia de Meruge. Muito mais do que um colossal afloramento granítico, a Lage Grande é o berço da identidade, da história e do orgulho de toda uma comunidade. Vem caminhar sobre o granito desgastado pelos passos seculares das suas gentes e sente a energia de um lugar onde o Homem e a Geologia coabitam em perfeita harmonia!

🇬🇧 At the foot of the imposing Estrela mountain, the highest in mainland Portugal, there are timeless landscapes, one of which is the Lage Grande de Meruge – a geological and cultural relic in the municipality of Oliveira do Hospital. The social, religious and recreational life of the parish of Meruge unfolds around this enormous granite outcrop, which has been sculpted by the forces of erosion over thousands or even millions of years. The Lage Grande is much more than just a colossal granite outcrop; it is the cradle of the identity, history and pride of an entire community. Come and walk on the granite worn smooth by centuries of footsteps, and experience the energy of a place where humanity and geology coexist in perfect harmony!
