Hi everyone - I'm proud to put this post, I’ve written a guidebook about how to navigate the legal system here (in English) and how to protect yourself in Portugal if you are leaving abuse or find yourself in this situation - a book I wish I had three years ago when my own story of leaving abuse began.

While I don’t know it all and am not a lawyers, I have seen how even the basic info isn’t readily available and the struggle to navigate these stressful situations can be. I put all I've learned in one place for us to use together to defend ourselves in this broken system.

Hi everyone - as most of you have been watching the rollercoaster of a ride we've been on here in Portugal and the Portuguese legal system. Through my campaign, I started to protect my baby many many other victims of legal abuse in this country have some forward - some with the same exact story as ours some far worse, some whom are family of women who sadly lost their life to the system and it's abuse.
As an American it's been shocking to see how little freedoms or rights people in a European country actually have. The system is slowly changing here but not fast enough to protect victims of domestic violence like myself and my children. Through this work I've become hyper-aware of the extreme need for support for victims here. It took me over two years to locate the correct legal representation, learn my rights, and to understand how to protect myself. This all happened because of my will to stand up for what's right and educate myself.
Now I want to take this work further with starting an NGO out of the UK offering education, support on public campaigns and granting micro-grants to those in need who can't afford the required legal support. Once the NGO is launched I'll be able to start applying for and accessing various grants but for now I'm turning to fundraising to get us started. Any support I will be so thankful for to launch this life-changing project.

Friends - I have spent two years in hell trying to protect my daughter from impossible circumstances after escaping abuse. I have with the help of others decided to not stay silent any longer and to take legal action both with the judge overseeing our case that led to my daughter being yet again harmed and the country where my daughter's human rights have not been protected. Below is our first public statement. I'm asking for your help now to share this far and wide to be able to shine the light where we need it to protect my baby. No one deserves to be put through we have survived for two years now being held in a country not our home. (and for my American friends YES we have went to the embassy but there's very little they can do outside of the safe house they offered us). How you can help? Share our story with your public officials and news stations. The further this goes, even the US the more protected the baby and other children victims will be. THANK YOU.
