Madrugada Associação Madrugada Associação provides free home-based palliative care and holistic support to people in the Algarve affected by terminal life-limiting illnesses.

Because you care, we can. Established in 2009, we have developed an excellence in home-based palliative care which is provided free of charge. Madrugada offer suport throughout illness and beyond to people in The Algarve who are affected by a life limiting illness. Our speialist clinical team provide homebaed end of life care to those who prefer to spend their remaining days in their own home. The Madrugada Centre in Praia da Luz helps people and those who are important to them, manage the challenges on life limiting illness throughout councelling, therapeutic and creative activities, complementary therapies, advice and education. Home Based Palliative Care

Madrugada Associação provides a home based ‘end of life’ palliative nursing care service for people wishing to spend their last remaining days professionally cared for in their own home. Until the last moment and beyond, the dignity and comfort of our patients and their family is our primary concern. Beneficiaries will receive compassionate care that aims to alleviate, as far as is possible, the ‘total pain’ of the patient and those close to them. ‘Total Pain’ not only considers the physical symptoms of a dying person but also the emotional distress and the social burden of care together with their spiritual needs which may be many and varied. Our association never invoices for end of life care. As a self-supporting, not-for-profit association, Madrugada does not receive any state or grant funding. Our organisation covers all its own internal fixed running costs through social enterprise such as our charity shops and our private care service know as Hibiscus. The additional cost of end of life nursing care is covered by donations and fundraising events and it would be impossible to continue without this level of support. Providing specialised palliative care nursing attracts substantial costs; one twenty four hour period of nursing care costs our association a minimum of €420, that’s nearly €3000 per week, and therefore any contribution to these costs is gratefully received

To every nurse, in every setting, all over the world — today is for you.

In emergency rooms and care homes, in GP surgeries and people's living rooms — nurses show up everywhere, bringing skill, care, and an unwavering commitment to the people in front of them.

Here at Madrugada, we witness nursing at its most tender — walking alongside patients and families through end-of-life care at home, in the place they love most.

Thank you to our own Tanja and Doris, whose compassion and quiet presence have held so many families through the hardest of times — and to Sandra, whose dedication behind the scenes keeps everything running with care. 🌼
