Exciting news! 🎉
Our project STEAMigPOWER has been invited to the STEAM Conference in Linz, Austria 🇦🇹 (30–31 October 2025), hosted by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Women, Science and Research.

We’ll be sharing how STEAM approaches can empower migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers in Higher Education 💡🌍.

Can’t wait to bring our project to this international stage!

🎙️ Exciting news! , coordinator of our project, took on the challenge of summarising our research in just 90 seconds on 90 Segundos de Ciência!

Universities play a crucial role in migrant integration—not just by providing education but by fostering inclusive spaces and supporting skills development. Sofia shared how STEAM education can empower migrants, bridging skills gaps and creating new opportunities in the labour market.

We are happy to announce that the 5 day long on-site STEAMigPOWER Project Intensive Program centered on EU Social Inclusion & Digital Story Telling and 5 STEAM courses related to the Environment and combating Climate Change was delivered by METU Team in Ankara, TURKIYE, between 23-27 September, 2024.

62 persons were registered on paper for the STEAMigPOWER Programme between the ages of 14 and 50, from 4 different countries (Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine), stating willingness to participate and attend the Programme. Consequently, 52 persons attended the 80 % of the Programme and awarded with a certificate.

❗❗The kick-off meeting of the Erasmus+ project

👉 STEAMigPOWER “STEAM approaches at higher education for mIGrants, refugees and asylum seekers' empowerment” 👈

was held at the Universidade do Minho on January, 2023.

The project, funded by the European Commission with an overall budget of 400.000,00 €, includes a balanced international partnership carefully chosen considering the Mediterranean migrant routes and the impact of the migrant crisis in this region.
UMinho (Portugal) coordinates the project, working together with Università degli Studi di Perugia (Italy), Fundació Solidaritat UB (Spain), Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) (Greece), Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi / Middle East Technical University (Turkey) and SEAL CYPRUS (Cyprus).

The project will focus on the development of the STEAM courses to be offered to migrants, refugees and asylum seekers, namely women and pupils in upper secondary school (15 – 18 years old), who are particularly vulnerable to being marginalized in STEAM.
