🇫🇮🤝🇵🇹 Yesterday afternoon, I had the pleasure of meeting with Nurer Zaman Bhuiyan, President of the International Helsinki Rotary Club, at the NH Collection Helsinki Grand Hansa, where the club regularly meets. We had the opportunity to have a friendly chat and of exchanging our club flags — a meaningful symbol of friendship, dialogue, and international understanding.
Over an inspiring conversation, we explored the role of Rotary in promoting peace, fostering integration through language and education, and ensuring that international and migrant communities have their voices heard as active contributors to society.
We also reflected on Finland’s remarkable ability to embrace innovation while preserving its traditions, and discussed the growing challenges of misinformation, polarisation, and the impact of AI on public discourse. These are issues that require collaboration between educators, governments, institutions, media professionals, and civil society.
As a journalist by profession and a committed Rotarian, President Zaman brought valuable perspectives to these discussions. Together, we recognised that Rotary can play an important role in building bridges, encouraging dialogue, and supporting projects that strengthen social cohesion and informed citizenship.
As Secretary of the Rotary Club of Funchal, and through my work as an independent consultant, public speaker, and advocate for ethical innovation and informed citizenship, this was a particularly meaningful exchange.
🌍✨ We look forward to continuing this conversation and exploring future opportunities for collaboration between the Rotary Club of Funchal and Helsinki International Rotary Club.
