O Serviço Voluntário Europeu (SVE) é um programa de voluntariado inserido no Programa Juventude em Acção, que permite aos jovens entre os 18 e 30 anos participar num projecto de voluntariado entre 2 a 12 meses noutro país da Europa ou do Mundo.

Portugal, Testemunho Final

"Olá, chamo-me Elías, tenho 25 anos e sou de Espanha.

O meu voluntariado em Lisboa foi uma experiência em que aprendi muito sobre mim mesmo e sobre diferentes realidades que até então desconhecia. Foi um desafio para mim enfrentar este trabalho, porque nunca tinha trabalhado na área social antes; trouxe-me uma aprendizagem imensa e fortaleceu uma faceta do meu caráter que eu pensava desconhecer.
Ao longo dos meses, conheci pessoas muito diversas e acho que foi nesta parte que mais aprendi. Algumas das pessoas que conheci nesta viagem mudaram literalmente a minha vida de forma positiva; sem dúvida que vou para Espanha muito grato e com o coração cheio."

Portugal, abril 2026

"For me this April was a really exciting month.
The highlight of this month was definitely the trip to Madeira with my whole collocation. We spent there one week, which was amazing. We went hiking, visited Funchal and tasted typical food, like bolo do caco, which was really delicious. All in all, our trip was filled with lots of funny and memorable moments and brought us closer.

After the trip, I spent the most of my freetime in Lisbon or at the beach, as the weather was really good. I met other volunteers and we had a brunch, or watched the sunset together. Besides that, we also celebrated the 25th of April, so the "Dia da Liberdade" together, which was for me something completely new, but I really enjoyed the march and the atmosphere in the city on this day.
All in all, it was a great month, which enabled me to see other parts of Portugal and learn more about the history of the country. Moreover, I truly enjoyed spending my time with the other volunteers and getting to know them better.
I am excited for the next month and grateful for all the memories, I have already made troughout the months. "

"Olá, My name is Austra and im from Latvia.

April was a really special month for me in Portugal. One of the highlights was taking part in the celebrations of the 25th of April, an important national holiday that celebrates freedom and democracy. At work I helped to make crepe paper flowers and took part in filming a music video for the event. It was a fun and meaningful experience, and it helped me better understand Portuguese history and culture.
This month also made me realize how grateful I am for the people around me. My friends supported me and helped when things got rough and I truly felt that I have found my crowd here in Portugal. Knowing that I am surrounded by such kind and amazing people made April worth it! "

"April was a very enriching month for me. I had the opportunity to participate in an educational outing with the children, a very enjoyable experience where we shared some wonderful activities together. We also made gifts for Mother's Day, a creative activity that I really appreciated, as the children were very engaged and happy to create something personal.

In my free time, I continued to explore Portugal. I visited Sintra and the magnificent Pena Palace, a truly impressive place for its architecture and history. This month also allowed me to learn more about Portuguese history thanks to the march organized to celebrate April 25th, a very interesting and important moment for understanding the country's culture and values. "

"My name is Paula, I am 22 years old and I come from Germany.

April was a very challenging month for me.

Now I have started working in a center for people with disabilities, and the experience has been completely different in the best possible way. I finally feel welcomed, included, and appreciated by the team. The atmosphere is very warm and supportive, and I feel much more comfortable and motivated every day. What I especially enjoy is that we can actively participate in planning activities and bring our own ideas into the projects. I already have many ideas for personal projects and activities that I would love to organize together with the people in the center. This gives me the opportunity to be creative and truly involved in the work I do.

Even though work was difficult, my private life during April was filled with many beautiful experiences. I spent a lot of time at the beach, in parks, and exploring the areas around Lisbon. I also met new people and spent quality time with old friends. These moments gave me a lot of energy and helped me stay positive during the harder times.

Overall, despite the challenges, I had a good time and learned a lot this month. April became a month of change, personal growth, and new beginnings for me, and I am grateful for the experiences that helped me become stronger and more confident."

Como o voluntariado europeu mudou a forma de ver o mundo do António!

"Ser voluntário no âmbito do Corpo Europeu de Solidariedade em Varsóvia, Polónia, foi uma das experiências mais transformadoras da minha vida.

Por um lado, desenvolvi inúmeras competências imprescindíveis para o meu percurso profissional e em termos pessoais, desde competências linguística a competências sociais.

Por outro, pude contactar não só com uma cultura, língua e realidade social bastante diferente da minha, como também viver e trabalhar com voluntários de sete nacionalidades diferentes.

A diversidade mostrou-me que o mundo é sempre muito maior do que realmente pensamos e que é importante sabermos desafiar-nos e aventurarmo-nos na sua descoberta."

"The month of April was wonderful. The Oeiras flat flew to Madeira altogether. We landed in between the mountains and they watched over us for the entirety of the rest of our trip.

We went swimming in waterfalls nestled in the woods and dug our feet into the black sand of seixal beach while the wind roared around us. We boarded a boat that took us out at sea and dropped us back off at the dock's with stars in our eyes after showing us dolphins and a whale! We even climbed the highest peak of the island, and as we sat high above a sea of clouds we witnessed a sunrise that tore the sky apart and left it tinted with red and orange streaks. "

Portugal, abril 2026

"April was nice; the sun is shining, the warm weather is here, and the beaches are crowded. Speaking of beaches, I told myself that I would take a bath in the Atlantic Ocean in April—well, I didn't do it. So, the bath will have to wait for May!

April was also about remembrance. I took part in the celebration of the 25th of April, Freedom Day, in Lisbon. I visited the Aljube Museum and walked side-by-side with the Portuguese people to remind myself that democracy is a constant fight and fascism must never return. I can honestly say it might have been my best day in Portugal since arriving six months ago.

April was also about trying to spend more time with other volunteers. I went with some of them to the 25th of April demonstration, and I also went to Sintra with others. It was really cool!

Finally, April was about continuing to discover other cities in Portugal. This time I went to Coimbra, the city of the second oldest university in the country. I loved the mood there: the graffiti on the walls, the shoes in front of the ‘Repúblicas,’ and the slogans on the university buildings. I also had the chance to visit the old buildings of the city: the Joanina Library with its ancient books, the Royal Palace with the Great Hall of Acts, and the Chemical Laboratory with its old chemistry apparatus.

Last but not least, I would like to say that life in Portugal is pleasant and I truly enjoy living here.

"This month in Portugal was very nice and productive for me. The weather getting better motivates me a lot. Spending time with children during my volunteering activities and gaining new experiences is very exciting for me.
This month, I also had the opportunity to discover new places and participate in social activities. In addition, we started celebrating my birthday at the end of April :)
Every day here is becoming more beautiful and enjoyable for me."
